4. Got an interview? Great, then keep this info in mind!
The purpose of an interview is to get to know your employer and the employer gets to know more about you. A well prepared job interview pays off, you’ll understand this soon enough! Unprepared interviews usually end in unwanted failure and a waste of time.
- Get to know the company. The best way to do this is via the internet because nearly all companies have a website. On the company website you’ll probably find a lot of information about the company, this will certainly be useful if the company asks you something about why you chose them as an employer.
A frequently asked question is:’’ What do you know about our organisation? Do you know what we stand for?’’ Of course it’s embarrassing when you have to admit that you don’t know what they’re all about so research the company well.
- Dress smartly. First impressions are the most important!
- Be on time. Take lots of time to prevent yourself from being late. It’s better to be 10 minutes early instead of 5 minutes late. On top of this, rushing makes you unnecessarly nervous. If you are running late for whatever reason you should call your (future) employer if possible and inform them of your situation.
- Don’t pretend you’re someone else. Show them your strengths, be positive about all your weaknesses and try to show you’re problem-solving. Sit as comfortable as possible and listen carefully to all the questions that will be thrown at you so you can answer those questions to the best of your ability.
- Body language. Eye contact is great help in those situations. Answer the questions as clear as possible and don’t try to talk too much. Don’t be afraid to pause; it’s ok to think a few seconds before you answer. Keep your back straight and be confident.
The interview starts as soon as you walk through the door!
Finally...
Most of all be confident and be yourself. Good luck!
