We are offering 18-25 year old's once in a life time opportunities to travel to Southern Africa to make a difference. Placements take 10 weeks and are fully funded by the UK government, meaning we cover all of your costs and provide a living stipend. Job description

Skillshare International is an international volunteering and development organisation. We work in partnership with communities in Africa and Asia to reduce poverty, injustice and inequality and to further economic and social development.

The International Citizen Service (ICS) programme is an international volunteering programme that we provide for 18-25 year olds. It is fully funded by the UK government, so it won't cost you a penny to take part in. All you need is enthusiasm, dedication, and the passion to make a difference.

You will volunteer for 10 weeks in South Africa, Lesotho or Botswana. Working in a team made up of UK and local volunteers, you will contribute towards fighting poverty and changing communities for the better. This is a once in a life time opportunity to volunteer abroad and make a real and lasting difference.

We are currently looking for vibrant young people to volunteer on our placements leaving in Autumn 2015 for 10 weeks.

You could get involved with a variety of different projects including to:

  • Help people access better healthcare
  • Raise awareness about preventing HIV and AIDS and to prevent stigma and discrimination
  • Widen opportunities for people who haven't had a formal education
  • Train young people to use IT and other media
  • Use sport and other activities to build life skills
  • Work with young people to improve their retention and attainment at school
  • Raise awareness about climate change

Important

ICS is open to 18 to 25-year olds regardless of income, qualifications, disability and work history.

You must however meet the following criteria:

  • Be aged 18 to 25 at the time you take up your placement (you can apply at 17 if you will be 18 by the time you leave)
  • Be a UK, EU or EEA citizen with a current UK address, or have indefinite leave to remain in the UK (non-UK, EU or EEA citizens can apply directly to the offices of your home country)
  • Have lived in the UK for at least 12 months
  • Be committed to fundraising and attending training in the UK which you will be supported with throughout
  • Be able to stay away from home for 10 to 12 weeks during your placement
  • Be committed to sharing your experience with others and taking action in your local community when you return

A matter of principle…

ICS is committed to inclusion and to meeting the individual needs of those who take part. We welcome applications from young people who have an impairment or who consider themselves to be disabled.

No volunteer will be excluded from accessing the programme due to cost. Travel to selection days and pre-departure training and related accommodation costs can be reimbursed by the partner organisations. Immunisation and anti-malarial costs will also be covered.
