Summer role with flexi hours from July to late October for a very recent graduate of one of the 8 major universities in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds or Sheffield. Preferably Wirral / Liverpool / Cheshire based. Responsible for implementing a strategy for selling University wall planners to new and returning students in Sept and Oct 2019. Low cost product with very high margins but limited sales period requires high impact planning, preparation and distribution before students return in late September. Very interesting commercial challenge for right person. There’s 240,000 students at those 8 unis so if just 3% of them buy a wall planner before end of October that’s a big income opportunity. Possible permanent role as commercial head within the broader business for successful person.
1) Use recent experience as a student to understand the best way to sell high volumes of university specific academic year wall planners to new and returning students in September and October 2019 at (all or some of) Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield universities. (retail price of approx £5 means a low cost discretionary purchase for students during freshers week and the following few weeks).
(please note these wall planners are specific to the term dates / exam dates etc for each univeristy - they are not generic - all designs will be shared with interested candidates).
2) Sales strategy may include selling to retailers (eg convenience stores in student areas) and / or direct to students (eg: at freshers fairs etc).
3) Preferably use and recruit contacts from other universities to gain insight across the Liverpool / Manchester / Sheffield / Leeds universities grouping - subcontracting or hiring of contacts at the other universities is not a problem. The right candidate will hopefully be able to build a sales group across some or all of the 4 cities to implement the optimal sales strategy.
4) Advise on social media and other marketing channels that may assist to drive awareness and sales. Engage and manage social media platforms as required to achieve desired objectives.
All applicants who send a CV and cover letter will receive a reply via email. Please note that applicants who send generic cut and paste cover letters will not receive a reply.
Interviews will initially take place by whatsapp and with a face to face interview before hiring.
I'm a Manchester graduate myself but that was a long time ago. After over 25 years of working overseas in the Middle East and Asia I now have the money and the time to bring to life entrepreneurial ideas that I couldn't possibly afford when I was 21.
This particular business idea needs a fresh graduate to implement because it's a product for university students. If you have a sharp commercial mind and don't see your near term future involving a couple of years of photocopying and other menial tasks in a big company on a faceless business park somewhere in the South of England then this may be for you. In 3 months you may achieve something that you'd never get the chance to do in a big company.
One last point worth mentioning - if you think wall planners are a defunct concept because of smartphones then this opportunity is probably not for you - you need to believe in the concept of a low cost but high quality wallplanner as a useful piece of student kit.
Thanks a lot for taking a look. Hope to hear from you if you think you tick the boxes. If nothing else you'll spend a bit of the summer on an interesting commercial challenge. Best case is we get wildly successful and you get a full time commercial director role in a fledgling company – there are dozens of other wall planners that can be made, including about 150 more universities to choose from in the UK alone, promotional calendar year planners, sponsored planners - basically an almost limitless set of possibilities.
Planamax is a trading style of Malarex Limited, (company number 11493739). We are based on the Wirral.
