Student Health Visitor

Bath and North East Somerset Region (multiple locations available)

Are you a thoughtful and dedicated Nurse or Midwife based in the Bath and North East Somerset or surrounding areas? We are looking for dynamicnurses and midwives to train as Specialist Community Public Health Nurses - Health Visitors.

As a Health Visitor, you can make a real difference to children, families and communities. You will play a fundamental role in the development of the Healthy Child Programme, promoting child development, safeguarding children, preventing social exclusion and deprivation and tackling important public health issues.

The student should be proactively interested in Public Health, be driven to make a difference and open to challenge. Insightful communication is fundamental to the role and the successful candidate should be tactful, credible, supportive, encouraging and be genuinely interested in children and families, focusing on the needs of the child.

We are aligned to the University of the West of England (UWE) where you will be supported for the 50% academic study.Throughout the programme theory will be embedded in practice and there is an expectation that the candidate will have experience of reflection and reflective practice. It is important to be focused on people rather than tasks, and the SCHPN student should have an adaptive communication style, to be approachable, empathetic and non-judgemental. It is important to be able to engage others and build partnerships, not only with clients, but with colleagues in their teams. Throughout the programme consideration will be given to cultural needs and societal needs. A consequence of this will facilitate and establish productive relationships with clients, improving health and wellbeing outcomes for children and families.

You will be motivated to learn and to develop knowledge, skills and critical abilities to provide leadership and innovation in community health. The wider goals are to improve population health, in particular the health of children and families and to prevent illness.

Applications for sponsorship are invited from Nurses and Midwives on parts 1 or 2 of the NMC register, who should normally have a minimum of 120 Higher Education Credits at Levels 5 (Diploma) for entry to the BSc programme or 120 level 6 credits (BSc) for entry to the PG DIP programme. The training programme is offered on a fixed term basis, full time for 52 weeks commencing January 2020 and a contract of employment will be issued specifically to undertake the course, terminating on a specified date. The training is Monday to Friday and holidays are planned throughout the programme by UWE. There is no flexibility with the programme.You must hold a full driving license.

Allapplicants must adhere to the NMC code of conduct at all times and all recruitment is subject to safer recruitment processes and enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure and clearance.
