Science Instructor - After School Clubs

Bright Sparks Science are currently looking for enthusiastic individuals to be trained as part-time presenters to deliver our interactive science programmes. You will be doing simple science experiments that children will love. Your will receive free training which offers you valuable experience, a chance to learn new skills and will be a priceless addition to your CV.

What are you going to do:

On weekdays during term time, an instructor's main duty will be to present and deliver fun science after school clubs which run for one hour with approximately 15-20 children aged between 4 and 11 yrs. Your responsibilities will also include being at the school with plenty of time to set up and clearing away the classroom/hall to the original state after the club has finished. After school clubs take place between the hours of 2-5pm, depending on the school.

We provide flexible working hours, according to your availability
during weekdays and weekends and the hours of work you desire. Most instructors fit the work around a second job or university and either work during the week delivering after school clubs during term time or deliver entertaining children's birthday parties at the weekend. We also have work available during
the school holidays in the form of science activity camps, if you prefer to work outside of term time. Your working hours can be negotiated to suit you, so please specify your availability and which events you are interested in delivering.

Job Locations:

Oxfordshire (which may include Oxford, Bicester, Banbury, Witney, Faringdon, Wantage, Wallingford and Thame and surrounding areas)

Berkshire (which may include Reading, Newbury, Henley, Wokingham, Bracknell, Maidenhead and Slough and surrounding areas).

As an instructor you will be expected to travel to the host
schools or venues in your local area. A driving licence and access to a reliable car is desirable. Although if you are a confident user of public transport, most primary schools in Oxford and Reading are serviced well by buses and trains so travel can be easily accomplished this way.

What we offer:

  • Travel expenses, such as train and bus fares, will be reimbursed or if you are driving, mileage from your home to the school will be paid for at the rate of 30p-45p per mile (depending on distance travelled).
  • We will train you on everything you need to know, from basic science experiments to classroom control and safeguarding children.
  • DBS certificate (previously Criminal Records Bureau check)

What we ask:

  • At least finished high school GCSE or equivalent level grade A-C in Science, Maths and English
  • Confidence to present to an audience
  • Enjoy working with children
  • A background in Science
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Current DBS* check with access to the update system

Extra information

As an employer within the education sector we require all employees to have a current DBS certificate (previously Criminal Records Bureau check). This is a government check that just makes sure that you are legally able to work with Children and/or vulnerable adults. If you haven't already got one, don't worry, we can arrange to apply for a DBS for you.
