Holiday Camp Instructor in Abingdon

Bright Sparks Science are currently looking for enthusiastic individuals to be trained as seasonal instructors to deliver our interactive science programmes during the school holidays. You will be doing simple science experiments that children will love. Your will receive free training which offers you valuable experience, a chance to learn new skills and will be a priceless addition to your CV.

7 - 35 hours per week
Between £7.00 and £9.50 Per Hour

What are you going to do:

Activity Instructors are responsible for delivering the camp activities and we depend on their utmost professionalism and hard work to make the camps a success. With our camps running in most school holidays this is the perfect seasonal opportunity for those looking to gain experience in a childcare setting or develop science outreach and teaching skills.

Under the direction of the Camp Manager, you will be assigned to mentor a group of 8-10 children through a range of different science experiments and crafts activities. You will be required to adapt your skills and experiences to working with children of a variety of ages, backgrounds and abilities whilst catering for their individual needs.

As part of a dynamic team you will be expected to help children settle in at the start of their day and organise them and their belongings at the end. This can involve direct interactions with parents or guardians to discuss individual requirements in a professional and friendly manner.

The role involves ensuring a respectable and safe environment is maintained throughout the day, this includes cleaning and maintenance of activity equipment and cleaning of tables and floor areas as required.

Job Locations in Oxfordshire (which may include Oxford, Wantage, Abingdon, Woodstock, Didcot and surrounding areas)

As an instructor you will be expected to travel to the host venues in your local area. A driving licence and access to a reliable car is desirable. Although if you are a confident user of public transport, most venues in Oxford are serviced well by buses and trains so travel can be easily accomplished this way.

What we offer:

  • Travel expenses, such as train and bus fares, will be reimbursed or if you are driving, mileage from your home to the venues will be paid for at the rate of 30p-45p per mile (depending on distance travelled).
  • We will train you on everything you need to know, from basic science experiments to classroom control and safeguarding children.
  • DBS certificate (previously Criminal Records Bureau check)

  • At least finished high school
  • Confidence to present to an audience
  • Enjoy working with children
  • A background in Science
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Current DBS* check with access to the update system

As an employer within the education sector we require all employees to have a current DBS certificate (previously Criminal Records Bureau check). This is a government check that just makes sure that you are legally able to work with Children and/or vulnerable adults.
