About The Role
Our machines are non-stop and in some sites we operate a 24 hour operation. Our Engineers play a pivatoble part in ensuring our machines work to the best of their ability. So we can provide great product to our customers, whilst still ensuring speediness. Our Automation Engineers lead, deliver and own the end-2-end process related to our automated equipment, devices and controls on site.
 
You would also be responsible for:
 
- Focusing on machine system improvements, supporting the completion of RCA’s across site, CMMS systems and improving downtime on our non automated lines.- Driving a structured and sustainable programme of electrical & automation improvement.- Developing and delivering equipment standards and create user requirement specifications with appropriate quantitative and qualitative performance measures for all CAPEX and OPEX investments involving Automated Devices on Site.- Delivering a skills development programme and taking full responsibility for upskilling in the areas of electrical & automation. Actively coach and mentor colleagues.- Proactively implement sustainable ways of working, asset improvements and resilience to ensure critical assets are always available for production when required with minimal disruption through failure.- Working with external supplier partners and from own knowledge / experience, develop a repeatable process to identify, track and manage out areas of risk through obsolescence.- Keeping up to date with latest trends and opportunities to speed up and simplify our operation with automation and involve/engage colleagues in implementing change in this area.
 
Our pack house in Derby uses around 4 million stems of flowers to provide our stores with 400,000 bouquets of flowers every week.
Flowerworld is our dedicated flower facility. Here 460 colleagues work a single shift operation to provide fresh flowers, roses and bouquets. During busy seasonal events like Valentine’s Day and Christmas it’s all about teamwork. Our production more than trebles to 1.3 million bouquets a week on the run up to Mother’s Day!

About You
As well as the ability to work at pace, we're also looking for someone who has...

- Technical engineering experience, preferably through recognised time-served apprenticeship in manufacturing - strong examples of structured improvement gains through Automation. 
- A HND/HNC Electrical & Electronic Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- A background in process control and automation engineering in FMCG or equivalent industry. (You’ll need specialist knowledge of PLC, HMI SCADA, SQL along with the skills and capability to coach staff through fault finding on a variety of equipment/situations.)
- You will need experience of working with project teams and OEMs to influence design improvements and strong experience in ensuring safe working and safe systems of work are utilised and followed. 
- Experienced and is comfortable in CI and Lean techniques who is comfortable to lead the way within the Engineering team.
