Conservation and wildlife officer in Birmingham

Are you an experienced community engagement practitioner with a passion for wildlife? Earthwatch is recruiting a part time Community Engagement Officer to bring Naturehood, our flagship community wildlife programme, into Birmingham.

21 hours per week
Between £20,000.00 and £24,000.00 Per Hour

What are you going to do:

Key Deliverables

  • Work closely with the Naturehood Project Manager, Senior Engagement and Learning Manager, and local line management to develop a local delivery plan for Engaging Environments, which uses Naturehood tools and resources to co-create actions and activities that connect communities with their local wildlife, supports local community priorities, and contributes to the wider NERC programme.
  • With partners, formulate and deliver a stakeholder engagement plan for Engaging Environments within the delivery area which identifies key audiences and partners for the project, their stake in the project, and appropriate and high-quality engagement experiences which utilise Naturehood tools and resources to connect stakeholders with Engaging Environments.
  • In partnership with local communities, develop and deliver a programme of engagement events and activities, using Naturehood resources and locally tailored approaches, to support people to connect with their local wildlife, and to share their experiences and enthusiasm within their communities.
  • Participate in community organising training and use these principles where appropriate to help deliver action and activities.
  • Work with colleagues within Engaging Environments and Naturehood to ensure that data collection objectives are prioritised within the project, and that our co-created citizen science goals are achieved.
  • Work closely with Earthwatch colleagues to develop and deliver a local school engagement programme.
  • Implement a monitoring and evaluation framework, providing regular reports for internal and external use, to ensure that project performance and community engagement outcomes are captured and communicated in line with programme requirements.
  • Support project communications within the delivery area, including collection of case studies and dissemination of national and local achievements and outcomes.

  • Strong communication skills, including maintaining strong operational relationships within a dispersed project team, and the ability to produce clear written outputs including reports and press releases.
