We have a exciting opportunity for an Administration Assistant Apprentice to join our busy Secretarial team within Ophthalmology, based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The successful candidate will assist the Medical Secretaries in Ophthalmology to provide an efficient secretarial service to the clinical team and patients.

We are looking for an individual with ambition, therefore it is essential that you are motivated to learn new skills and are willing to embrace this opportunity to start your career in the NHS.

The role will involve interacting with a wide variety of people within the organisation, but also with people outside the organisation. Therefore, you will need to develop good communication and customer care skills, already having a friendly, pleasant and helpful approach to build on is critical.

The successful candidate will have already achieved a good standard of education at GCSE (or equivalent) level which includes Mathematics and English grades 9 - 4 (or equivalent) and ideally have had some relevant exposure to an administration or customer focused environment.

You must have good IT skills, be numerate and have an eye for detail. The ability to work accurately is key in this role to ensure we deliver a high quality service.

To support your development in your role of Apprentice Administrative Assistant, during your 13 month placement you will be enrolled with Telford College and will be required to complete a Business and Administration Diploma at Level 2/ Medical Business and Administration Diploma at Level 2.

You will receive support from the College but will also be supported by staff within the relevant department to help you develop. In addition other personal development activities will be available to you throughout the course of your apprenticeship. The delivery of training will happen in your workplace.

You need to be able to demonstrate the appropriate attitudes and behaviours to work in this environment, with a clean, neat and tidy appearance, have a can do attitude and be a good team worker.

This is a great way to get experience in the NHS and the Trust is looking to develop the right individual to enable them to secure a permanent post within our organisation at the end of the 13 month placement.
