Day & Night Support for disabled 12 year old in London

Day & Night (waking night) support worker for lovely disabled and non verbal 12 year old boy. Take on a minimum of 1 regular night shift per week (these are waking nights) plus some day time shifts amounting to 24 to 30 regular hours per week (depending on the appropriate candidate). This is a position within a family home. It is a self-employed position.

What are you going to do:

What will you be doing?

  • We are looking for a Day & Night (waking night) support worker to join the nice team around our lovely disabled and non verbal 12 year old son.
  • You would need to take on 1 regular nights per week (these are waking nights) plus some day time shifts as well amounting to a minimum of 24 hours per week (ideally more) up to 30 regular hours per week (depending on the appropriate candidate).
  • In total this would amount to 24 - 30 hours per week. Some weeks it could be more if other members of the team are away.
  • So some level of flexibility on your part would be required, but in turn we are also flexible. 
  • This position would be ideal for a student who has a keen interest in Psychology, Pedagogy, Nursing or Child Development.
  • It is not a care home or residential setting but within our family home. We also do need support during weekends and this is not a 9-5 job at all.
  • During day time hours you would often work together with other team members to engage him in activities as well as therapy and to take him to swimming, to a bicycle club trampolining and his school club.
  • He can walk short distances but otherwise uses a push chair.
  • You would be assisting him with everyday skills as well as feeding, bathing and and all his personal care.
  • He sometimes is also tired and unwell after a seizure and will then just need care and nurturing and patience.
  • You will also make sure that his environment stay tidy and also help with his laundry.
  • You will be trained by members of the team and the education consultant and be taught the principles of ABA - a behaviour therapy.

You should:

  • Be physically fit as he needs a lot of support Reliable and fun
  • Able to work legally in the UK Self-employed Invoice monthly
  • Have a current DBS or get one done.
  • Be based in London
  • Not be afraid of dogs we have a friendly family dog. 
  • Speak English.

Finer details

  • Weekly hours: 24-30 hours (sometimes more - not a 9-5 job).
