COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT in Gosport

An opportunity for a sports and adventure loving Communications Assistant to join the busy Clipper Round the World Yacht Race team.

40 hours per week
Between £18.00 and £21.00 Per Hour

What are you going to do:

Temporary Staff Position on a full time, nine-month contract (Feb-October 2020)

An opportunity for sports and adventure loving Communications Assistant to join the busy Clipper Round the World Yacht Race team.  Extensive weekend and out of hours working during the race year will be required, which can at times make this role an endurance challenge in its own right.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Press and Public Relations Maintain and develop our database of international media and communications contacts Proof Crew Blogs on a regular basis and post them to Clipper Race website Manage digital
  • Clipper Race assets Monitor media coverage and liaise with our Media Monitoring service (SMG Insight) to keep coverage databases up to date
  • Develop a relationship with Clipper Race crew and identify and pitch interesting human interest stories to press
  • Liaise with crew on sponsorship and fundraising requests
  • Write copy and distribute regular Clipper Crew Newsletters to current and alumni crew
  • Update and manage Crew Hub content
  • Assist with copywriting and support for the Clipper Race website as required
  • Manage the PR and Communication for a selection of Partners, working closely with the Partnerships team Create, support and respond to Clipper Race social media feeds for Twitter / Facebook and Instagram as required
  • Respond to external media and sponsor enquiries in a timely and effective fashion as required
  • Develop materials and copy for Clipper Race Media Pack and Media Portal Provide office-based support for other members of the communications team while they are travelling and working in stopovers, including travel and in-port stopover assistance where agreed.
  • Internal Communications Support the creation and dissemination of internal coverage updates to staff and supporting departments
  • Advertising, Marketing and Events Provide proofing and copywriting as required to support the Head of Brand in production of advertising, marketing, display, printed materials, websites and events programmes, as directed by the Head of Communications
  • General Adhere to all Clipper Ventures procurement, order and approval procedures, seeking authority and approvals as appropriate
  • Support all communications development and delivery
  • To support any activity outside these key roles and responsibilities to help maintain the efficient running of the company and to meet its obligations to stakeholders, including but not limited to: crew, sponsors, partners, suppliers and internal departments
  • To behave in a professional manner at all times, including appearance, branded clothing as appropriate and general conduct.

  • Must have sufficient visas to be able to work in the UK, and be able to live within commutable distance of the Clipper Race’s Gosport HQ, Hampshire.

What we ask:

  • Minimum of twelve months Communications/PR experience
  • Have a good grasp of communication, admin and writing skills and possess a passion for people and storytelling
  • Knowledge and experience of sailing is desirable but not essential
  • Thirst for adventure and the ability to learn the job quickly is important
  • Candidates must be motivated to work using their initiative
  • Excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing
  •  Strong work ethic and stamina
  •  Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage projects independently
  •  Ability to manage different projects at the same time
  •  Ability to work under pressure and be flexible on working out of hours and weekends
  •  Good organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Good presentation skills
