Barclays Research produces differentiated market insights, thematic research and actionable ideas integrated across research disciplines, asset classes and geographies. This new headcount at the Vice President level as an Investment Scientist is an exciting opportunity to join Barclays Research function in a non-traditional research capacity. This role affords a very diverse focus to a career in Research.

• You will be a lead author of investment research that uses alternative data, data science, machine learning, and other sophisticated empirical techniques to inform the thesis
• Your primary responsibility will be to ideate, develop, complete, and publish your own high-quality independent research
• You will also be responsible for communicating research results and investment recommendations to institutional investor clients, sales, trading, and management teams
• Many of your projects will be to develop investment views that are informed by collaborations with dedicated sector and asset class analysts
• Your primary focus will be on data-science informed fundamental equity research across multiple industry sectors, but we welcome you to develop your own approach and voice.
• Beyond fundamentally focused work, there is the opportunity for thematic & systematic projects, and research on other asset classes including volatility, credit, macro, rates, & FX.


• Strong academic background in a quantitative/empirical field (maths, statistics, economics, computer science, physics, chemistry,)
• Demonstrable related experience in equity research, investment banking, or management consulting
• Solid financial experience including financial modeling, financial statement analysis and working with large data sets required
• Exposure to both fundamental and strategy approaches to research

• Experience with statistical and machine learning models, and an opinion about why they are the same or different
• Capacity to distinguish correlation from causation combined with resourcefulness, entrepreneurial spirit and proven leadership qualities
• Designations (CFA, CAIA, actuarial sciences) would be advantageous
• Ability to code in python, pyspark, R, SQL or other scripting languages (this is a plus, if you can do great research we can teach you to code)
