Barclaycards Payment Solutions (BPS) is responsible for supporting a wide range of business from large corporates to prosumers with taking payments. BPS’s approach supports face-to-face, over the phone, online and mobile, including in-app transactions. BPS is responsible for Barclaycards payment acceptance network and is the second largest acquirer in Europe.


The Lead Solutions Designer will manage a team of architects covering software, infrastructure, hosting and security. You will work with wider senior stakeholders to maintain a technical roadmap, creating solutions to meet business requirements.


This is a really exciting role for someone who has a track record in payment solutions and wants to be involved in improving systems that deal with over £700 million trades a day.



• Lead a team of architects to create technology solutions, and stage 0 costs, to meet business requirements in line with strategies and architectures
• Adding clarity to business requirements, challenges business requirements and demands to ensure high quality candidate solutions are created
• Identify common or duplicate needs across functions
• Work with PM’s and Global Tech Sourcing to advise on supplier and cost options, ensure validity of the overall solutions is fully represented and considered in any RFI process
• Responsible for ensuring that solutions adhere to architectural and quality standards and policies
• Able to rationalise between different solution options in a complex environment and define pros and cons.



• Proven track record building and designing high volume transaction processing systems
• Exposure of architecting the move of application into the cloud (AWS preferred)
• Able to refactor monolithic applications into a microservices / domain driven architecture
• Used to leading and mentoring a team of multi-disciplines architects.



• Able to define architecture roadmaps appropriate to different audiences
• Excellent stakeholder management, able to liaise and manage senior business executives
• Exposure working with end customers (external) to support roadmap conversations.



Barclays Fleet is a technology hub supporting key services for Barclays and Barclaycard. Our Fleet colleagues provide the support required for Barclaycard to process 18 million transactions worth more than £700 million every day, and make sure that 196 Barclaycard payments every second happen seamlessly. The Fleet office is a 2 minute walk from the train station, and is easily reached by train (40 minutes to Waterloo and 18 minutes to Woking) or car.
