Lead Engineer – cryptography in Northern Ireland

The Role

We are looking for a Lead Cryptography Engineer  who will help us develop and grow our  hardware and software authentication and encryption products. You will advance our mid-to-long-term research efforts in the area of  authenticating and securing communication in zero-trust networks and zero-knowledge systems. Lead projects that will turn groundbreaking research into commercially viable and reliable products to secure machine-to-machine communication across a broad spectrum of sectors and industries like Industry 4.0, Smart Grid, Automotive, IoT, Defense and Aerospace.

The candidate will be based in London and will report to the Chief Engineer  and the Chief technology Officer . The scope of work will be varied and will involve:

  • Lead and contribute to all stages in the development and delivery of critical elements of the cryptographic system underpinning Angoka’s products and solutions.

  • Verify and test the cryptographic principles used within Angoka’s products

  • Participate in developing cryptographic libraries for use within Angoka’s suite of products

  • Manage and contribute to the various stages in the accreditation of Angoka’s cryptographic systems by National and international standard and governmental bodies

  • Explore and participate in the development of new quantum-safe cryptographic principles/systems that utilize physically unclonable functions (PUFs)

  • Through engagement with the industry and subject matter experts identify and develop research into future concepts for cryptography and cryptographic systems.

  • Provide technical expertise and advice on cryptography and information security, including developing knowledge and experience of more junior team members

  • Lead, manage and scale-up a small team of talented cryptographists

  • Deliver high-quality technical analysis, reports, and presentations to senior management, external shareholders and customers

  • Writing patents and research papers where appropriate

  • Attend and deliver talks at industry seminars and conferences and other events relevant to Angoka

The Person:

We are looking for an experienced cryptographic engineer to join our technical management team, lead the crypto research and product development and have a positive influence on Angoka’s growth and stay at the forefront of the industry.

We expect you to have:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in the design and development of cryptographic principles and protocols. Proven ability to write patent is a bon


  • Proven experience (+5 years) of working in a security role, focused on implementing and testing cryptographic systems to secure real-time computing, high availability networks and systems.

  • Applicable knowledge and experience in one or more of the following industries: Defense & Aerospace, Critical National Infrastructure, Transportation, and Telecom.

  • Proven ability to rapidly interpret technical and business requirements and understand complex trade-offs in drawing conclusions and recommendations.

  • Proven ability to work across a broad spectrum of technical and project domains, understanding and shaping both the “big picture” and technical details.

  • Proven ability to engage and work with other technical experts and incorporate their input and feedback into broader technical solutions.

  • Proven record of cybersecurity and cryptography research experience

  • Qualified to at least an MSc degree in mathematics, computer science, cyber security, cryptography or a related field. A PhD or Post-doc in any of the related fields is a bonus.

  • Solid working knowledge MATLAB, C, C++ and Python

  • Proven ability to communicate complex topics clearly and concisely

  • Excellent verbal and written technical English communications skills
