Apprentice Advanced Clinical Practitioner- Ophthalmology

2 full-time positions

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered health professional to complete an apprenticeship to join our expanding team of Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

As an Apprentice ACP, with evidence of ability to study at post-graduate level, you will spend three years undertaking a Masters’ programme in Advanced Clinical Practice. This will require the development of both academic and clinical mastery, including independent prescribing.

You will be allocated a work-based clinical supervisor who will oversee the achievement of all core clinical competencies, as well as the unique competencies required of your specialty field within Ophthalmology. You will be required to complete all academic modules in order to progress from one year to the next and supplement these with additional professional certificates within Ophthalmic sub-specialities and practical in house training supported by the Ophthalmology team. Qualification as an ACP will require successful completion of the end-point assessment, which is the final part of the apprenticeship programme.

Applications are invited from registered health professionals with at least 3 years’ post-registration experience in Nursing, Optometry and Orthoptics and eligible to undertake independent prescribingor able to administer medication using Patient Group Directions. You will be self-motivated with a desire to improve patient care through application of advanced clinical skills and knowledge, as well as leadership, education and research skills. Commitment to completing this challenging programme is essential. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and forward thinking team comprising 12 Consultants, 5 Specialty and Trust Grade Doctors, 4 Specialty trainees, 5 Nurse Practitioners, 9 Orthoptists, 5 Optometrists and a substantial team of Ophthalmic Nurses, technicians and healthcare assistants. The department also benefits from our ECLO and a team of Pathway Failsafe Co-ordinators along with a supportive senior management team within the Head and Neck Directorate.

CHFT has 2 main sites, Ophthalmology being based in Acre Mills Out-patients, Huddersfield and Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax. Community clinics are also provided at Westwood Park (Bradford) and Todmorden (Halifax) but will not be expected from the successful candidate.
