Job Title:                    Business and Administration Apprentice

Department/Area:     Chedworth / Kemerton Ward / Surgical Admissions Suite – Reception

Accountable to:        Ward Sister

Location:                    Cheltenham General Hospital

Hours:                        37.5 hours per week

Terms of Contract:   GHNHSFT Apprenticeship Terms and Conditions

Salary:                        £10,132 pro rata, £5.18 per hour (Fixed term for 366 days)

This is an excellent opportunity to complete an Intermediate Level (Level 2) Apprenticeship in Business & Administration and gain valuable administration and customer service experience within an acute hospital setting.

This apprenticeship vacancy would be suitable for a school leaver or young person who has an interest in pursuing a career in customer service.

The Apprentice would be managed by the Senior Sister and be supported by the existing ward clerks, to carry out Reception duties and administration activities including:

  • Providing an efficient, friendly and courteous front of house service to all patients and visitors attending the department.
  • Be smart, professional in appearance and keep the reception work area tidy
  • Arrange appointments and any associated administrative duties
  • To record patient attendances and outcomes accurately and timely, in accordance with departmental policy
  • To use verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients/carers.

The Apprentice would be expected to be professional, treat everyone with kindness and respect, and have the confidence to communicate with patients and healthcare professionals in order to provide a friendly, efficient and courteous service to all visitors attending the Department.

Throughout the apprenticeship journey you will:

  • Be supported in the workplace by a mentor

  • 20% “off the job training” to develop and enhance your learning

  • Be in regular contact with the Training Provider and the Apprenticeship & Careers Team

  • Have access to a virtual learning platform

  • Receive support from your Training Provider, Manager/Mentor and the Apprenticeship & Careers Team

  • Attend workshops where you will have the opportunity to discuss and share

The job requires the apprentice to be flexible and alter activities and priorities as the need arises. The working hours are 37.5 hours per week; this includes a daily unpaid break of 30 minutes.

The young person (if under 18 years) will have a break every 4.5 hours worked; there is no weekend working.
