We are looking for a Shift Operations Manager to be based at our new Campbell Road Distribution Centre site in Stoke-on-Trent. There may also be a requirement to work from the Trentham Lakes Distribution Centre as and when required.

Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager and working shifts, you will be responsible for a team of First Line Managers and all operational & daily aspects of the Distribution Centre including resourcing to meet demand, health & safety and ensuring the operation consistently achieves the business KPI’s.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the First Line Managers (FLM) and colleagues in a consistent direction to achieve the Distribution Centre vision “to be the highest performing Distribution Centre in the world”
  • Create strong team working and a consistent environment across all teams within Pets at Home including all key stakeholders across Support Office, Southern Distribution Centre and Transport, in particular with equivalent role holders to improve cross-site consistency and drive site performance
  • Accountable for creating fun, living all the values, colleague engagement & WAE action plans at shift level (both FLM’s individual team scores and own direct reports)
  • Lead Continuous Improvement, generating new ideas, sharing best practice and working as one team across the site
  • Accountable for performance ensuring productivities of all areas are in line with Distribution Centre budget
  • Accountable for developing high performing teams on your shift by ensuring the use of the tools in place including PAWformance Engagement, Clear Route Ahead, Stretch 4 Success and reward & recognition

Skills / Competencies Required:

  • Several years’ experience at a Senior level within Distribution Centre Management
  • A background in a high volume retail logistics (in-house or 3PL)
  • Exceptional people management, leadership & coaching skills - open to new ideas, clearly directs and able to adapt leadership style
  • Ability to use emotional intelligence to understand the interests and what motivates your shift to get the best out of them
  • Sets out a clear vision for your FLM’s, know the value of making work fun, display a positive attitude and puts values into practice especially when under pressure
  • Inspires others through your own energy and outlook, encourage your team to put pets, customers and colleagues at the heart of everything they do
  • Passionate about achieving your objectives, results driven whilst living our values, driving performance
  • Grows talent within your teams, coaching for results and creating an environment where colleagues can flourish
  • Leads with integrity, earns trust, recognises development areas and displays humility
  • Action orientated with the energy and tenacity to succeed in a fast paced environment whilst working with challenging systems
  • Knowledge and experience of manual handling equipment and Warehouse Management Systems
