Data Scientist for Sports Start Up - video, audio and live data in United Kingdom

Sport Buff is looking for an Experienced Data Scientist to join us on our journey of changing the live sports experience for 1bn sports fans.

Goal: 

To help execute the analytics roadmap by designing data modeling processes, creating algorithms and predictive models from scratch and sharing actionable insights

 

Tasks:

  • Develop ML models to derive insights on partner and user behavior and inform product opportunities and strategy

  • Partner with Product teams on developing product roadmaps and leveraging ML techniques to curate a better user experience and drive business results

  • Work with Engineering teams to build the data infrastructure and processes to productionalize ML models

  • Analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts of both structured and unstructured

  • Analyze and validate data to ensure high data quality and reliable insights

  • Build data visualization reports and tools for self-service consumption of data, e.g., Tableau, Power BI etc.

  • Working with live sports data, Stats Perform and Sportsradar.

Essential requirements/attributes:

  • Ability to ask the right questions to begin the discovery process.

  • Continuous learning: researching new products, tools and techniques to assist with advancing Sport Buff’s machine learning and data science capability.

  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze issues, identify causes, and recommend solutions quickly.

  • The ability to work independently, manage time and prioritize tasks.

  • Concise and clear communication when presenting and explaining results and findings

Technical skills:

  • Familiarity with statistical and data-mining and modelling techniques

  • Strong knowledge of programming languages, with a focus on machine learning and advanced analytics (such as R, Python etc.)

  • Experience working with large data sets and relational databases

  • Proven experience of working on machine learning models including understanding of common data quality issues, data cleansing and manipulation for machine learning (e.g. feature engineering) and dimensionality reduction techniques (e.g. principal component analysis)

  • Skills to work with unstructured data and text data (topic modelling, sentiment analysis) and extract data from online sources (web scraping)

  • Experience optimizing code and infrastructure for machine learning performance

  • Experience working with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI etc.
