Catering Assistant

Working within the kitchen and dining area you will help to provide nutritious and enticing meals for the residents in our Homes. You will be responsible for ensuring mealtimes are an enjoyable part of the day, engaging residents in the dining experience.

As a Catering Assistant you are key in the preparation of high quality meals within the home, with the aim of achieving the highest levels of satisfaction for residents within our Homes. With a passionate approach you will prepare dining areas to our high standards ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for residents at mealtime.

You should have a good knowledge of food hygiene and food preparation along with a positive attitude and a drive to deliver industry leading service.

Food Preparation

 Carry out duties within the kitchen area in accordance with the work schedule including:

  •  Preparation of food including vegetables, salads, omelettes and sandwiches;
  •  General cleanliness and tidiness of the kitchen area, equipment and appliances;
  •  Receiving, checking and safely storing kitchen deliveries.

General Support

  • To demonstrate a can-do attitude towards individual customer requests and strive to exceed customer expectations;
  • As part of our commitment for continuous improvement and innovation, all colleagues are encouraged to seek ways to improve;
  • To prepare, produce and serve food to the standard applicable to the Home;

Health and Safety

  • Understand and implement the principles of safe food handling, to ensure all food preparation undertaken is to the highest possible standards of hygiene;
  • Understand and implement cleaning procedures and requirements of different surfaces and equipment and the properties of cleaning materials, to ensure the areas are well presented and maintained in good condition;
  • Practice safe systems of work across a range of tasks - in particular moving and handling of loads. Ensuring the policies and procedures are adhered to at all times;
  • Understand personal responsibilities with regard to Health and Safety at Work legislation, particularly in relation to fire safety and evacuation procedures;
  • To clean all work areas during and after use and remove all waste to the appropriate area;
  • To maintain temperature records as required and to report any variance;
  • Co-operate with your line manager on HSE matters;
  • Correctly use work equipment and personal protective equipment in accordance with training and instructions provided;
  • Not interfere with or mis-use anything provided for HSE purposes.

General

  • Act in a professional and courteous manner at all times towards residents and their visitors, respecting the dignity and individuality of each resident;
  • Encourage and contribute to working as a team, responding positively to colleagues and acting on all reasonable work instructions promptly;
  • Take care of items of equipment used to carry out tasks, including general cleanliness and advising on any faults and the need for maintenance or replacement;
  •  To actively gain resident feedback, passing information gained onto your line manager;
  •  Responsible for the safe and tidy storage of supplies and equipment in line with your area of work;
  • Take responsibility to read, understand and adhere to the company policies and procedures.
