Ward 20 is an award winning elderly care ward recognised for its strong and effective leadership and kind and compassionate care. We strive to promote independence, provide specialist elderly and dementia care and loving and sensitive support for patients and their families through palliative and end of life care. We believe that together on ward 20 we can offer a person centred approach to care and treatment while supporting our team to be the best practitioners they can be.
We have won the excellent end of life care award as well as inspirational leader of the year award. We are looking for a kind and caring innovator who is happy to think and work differently and encourage and support their team members to be the best they can be as well being someone that understands the value of life experience and is willing to support older people to live well.
We are an effective, well run ward and know our patients and families well. We work with effective and open communication and an MDT approach to our care planning. We also encourage all members of our staff to develop their strengths and make a positive contribution to the ward environment and our patients’ experience. We will provide additional support to ensure you reach your maximum potential.
In return for your care, passion, and commitment to the speciality we actively support staff education and development. As a staff member you will be supported by one of our Practice Development Nurses (PDN) within the division. We offer excellent developmental programmes at bands 5, 6 and 7. As a band 5 staff nurse you will receive a tailored induction programme that is supported by a competency document for you to complete on the ward with an allocated mentor. We can also offer rotational posts within all areas of acute and elderly medicine and the Emergency Department.
You will receive an annual Individual Performance Review by your line manager to help facilitate your development. We support staff with post registration courses relevant to their field of practice at Greenwich and Kings College Universities.
In addition, to further support you in your role, the Trust can also offer accredited leadership and management training: Level 5 - Extended Diploma in Management and Leadership. This apprenticeship is fully funded and specifically designed to meet the needs of middle managers wishing to acquire a range of management knowledge and skills and thus develop their career.
