Job description

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) is the largest community healthcare provider in Sussex.

  • 5,000 full and part time staff, with over 4,000 people registered on our bank
  • Medical, nursing and therapeutic care provided to over 9,000 children and adults a day
  • July 2018 Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating of ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ features
  • BAME, Disability, LGBT+ and Religion and Belief Staff Networks
  • Disability Confident Employer – Level 2

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Immunisation Nurse to join our school-aged Immunisation Service. The post is for a period of a year, commencing in September 2020.

The vacancy is full time (37.5 hours per week) although we are open to discussions about part time (minimum of 22.5 hours) or term time only working. SCFT's Immunisation Service vaccinates children in schools and clinics across West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton and Hove.

Although this post is based within the Uckfield team our whole service approach requires joint working across the whole of Sussex.

Our innovative and dynamic Immunisation teams are dedicated to improving immunisation uptake and delivering the national evidence-based Schools’ Immunisation Programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly expanding service.

The role encompasses responsibility for clinical delivery of vaccinations and patient safety, specialist advice on immunisation issues, and the opportunity to develop skills in both independent and team working.

The successful applicant will work in schools, clinics and family homes with children, young people and babies to deliver vaccinations in a safe and professional way. Engagement with hard to reach groups such as travellers and children who are looked after is another aspect of the service's remit and the Band 5 responsibilities will include supporting this work in the community. The ability to communicate well and remain calm under pressure is essential.

We welcome applicants who can demonstrate a willingness to work flexibly and cooperatively with colleagues both within their own team and the wider multidisciplinary teams across the whole SCFT area. You will need to be motivated, conscientious and committed to supporting us to maintain high vaccination coverage across Sussex.

The role requires working core hours of 8am-4pm with flexibility at either end of the day for packing of vaccines and clinic cover, on a rota basis within the team.

All team members support the whole of the SCFT Immunisation Service, so you must be a car owner/driver and be willing to travel to clinics and schools within Sussex.
