Principal Developer / Contractor in United Kingdom

Voscuris is an award-winning VC-funded healthcare start-up company specialising in patient and clinician health information reporting across web and native mobile platforms. Led by an experienced management team, our core platform leverages a range of software technologies, and we are currently seeking a part-time senior full-stack developer to join our team, with the potential for this role to develop into a full-time permanent principal developer or CTO position.

Job description

Rate - £400 / day

The successful candidate will be a self-starter capable of traversing technology boundaries and thinking creatively. We deploy our products in cloud and customer infrastructures, and within the role you will have visibility of the full technology stack, from data repositories to front-end interfaces, applying your development skills at all levels. This position will suit a candidate who is keen to apply their existing skills and eager to learn new ones, and who is comfortable working professionally directly with our customer as required on a key new project deployment.

We are seeking a candidate who is able to evidence a high level of competence across a full technology stack from server-side implementation and deployment to client-side UI on web and mobile platforms. You will be comfortable working in both traditional and Agile environments, and recognise the importance of shared mutual development, supporting and mentoring team members and colleagues.

Essential:

  • Third level Computer Science or Software Engineering qualification

  • 5+ years commercial experience of software development

  • Fully proficient in Java programming language

  • Sound understanding of best software engineering practices (e.g. testing, design patterns, security)

  • Excellent experience in the development and deployment of RESTful services (Apache Tomcat, Jersey, Hibernate, Swagger)

  • Client application development experience (e.g. Web, Android or iOS)

  • Comfortable with cloud deployment technologies (AWS preferred)

  • Knowledge of traditional and Agile methodologies

  • Automated testing methods


Desirable:

  • Java Developer Certification

  • Knowledgeable of secure programming practices

  • Experience of working in integration and data management projects

  • Proven capabilities in Android or iOS application development

  • Confident in JavaScript – React / jQuery / AJAX / HTML / CSS / PHP

  • Experience in a customer facing role or experience of dealing with clients

  • Information Security Certification (e.g. CISSP / GIAC)
