Job description


We have a brand new opportunity available for a Network Support Engineer in our Specialized Infrastructure Technology Function. Specialized Infrastructure provide full stack infrastructure provison from solution design through to product support. Whilst predominantly aligned to the Pre-Trade Technology transaction cycle responsible for Markets execution, Specialized Infrastructure are capable of providing the same service to the wider organization.



•Accountable for support of the Specialised Infrastructure Network environment. Monitor the alerting dashboard. Ensure issues are addressed and in hand.
•Analyze trends and identify areas for improvement. Suggest ideas to come up with a collaborative solution to the problem. Drive these solutions to continually improve support of the environment.
•Educate other team members on support of the environment. Document things to drive process improvements.
•Educate business and application partners on SI network impact / dependency on their business.
•Interact with the business to deliver projects and implement changes. These include client onboarding and firewall requests.
•Proactively manage network technology solutions. Identify and implement changes to optimize the design and drive cost savings.
•Accountable for identifying and delivering solutions to automate network tasks. Work with other teams within SI to execute such scripts / tasks as well as engineering for developing this in a framework consistent across SI.
•Define standards for SI Networks. Collaborate with Core Barclays Network Team on solutions and to ensure SI adherence to firm-wide standards.
•Collaborate with internal SI teams (Unix, Middleware, Market Data) for improvements and tight integration of the environment.
•Suggest and collaborate with level 3 networks / engineering for any suggestions / improvements to the environment.
•Escalate any issues that may affect the security or stability of the environment


•At least CCNP-level (Cisco Certified Network Associate) working knowledge -Full TCP/IP stack, BGP, OSPF, PIM, MSDP, VRRP, VARP, VXLAN
•Comfortable operating network equipment from Cisco and Arista
•Strong communication skills
•Ability to troubleshoot complex network problems via CLI and tooling, such as analyzing packet captures in Wireshark.
•Basic scripting skills for automation (BASH, Python, Ruby) and use of code repositories, such as GIT
•Basic working knowledge of Linux commands / utilities (GREP, SED, CUT, AWK)
•Strong problem solving skills


•Working knowledge of Ansible
•Working knowledge of Elastic Search
•Current knowledge of enterprise network automation / orchestration solutions and relevant industry trends.
•Familiarity with Ansible
