Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) is one of busiest teaching hospitals in Europe and is nationally recognised as having an established Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) service. With 140 qualified and trainee ACPs across 16 specialties to date, we are now seeking committed, enthusiastic and compassionate individuals to join our Integrated Sexual Health team in delivering the highest quality care to our patients. NUH offers qualified ACPs supported career pathways across the pillars of ACP.

With strong partnerships with our local universities we are looking for health care professionals to join us as apprentice trainee ACPs. Applicants must be registered with a professional body (NMC, HCPC or equivalent) hold a GCSE in Maths and English (grade A-C or equivalent) and be able to undertake the Non-Medical Prescribing course. Successful candidates will commence on the level 7 ACP apprenticeship training pathway at the University of Nottingham in 2019/20. We would also welcome trainee ACPs who are part-way through their training who are looking to move to NUH to access the established ACP training pathway.

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) Integrated Sexual Health Services (ISHS) sits within the Family Health Division. It has delivered integrated GUM, HIV, SRH and community sexual health services since 2011. The service covers a catchment of more than 700 000 people, and manages more than 50 000 attendances annually. The current HIV cohort size is over 1000.

Sexual health clinics are held daily from Monday to Saturday and include some evening sessions. Specialist sessions are conducted in HIV, genital dermatology, complex contraception, complex LARC and complex GUM. The service delivers sexual health care for 5 Prisons around the region. HIV inpatients are managed by the HIV specialists within the service.

The department provides clinics in over 20 health centre/college settings throughout the local community, and has an outreach team who work in various non-conventional health settings as well as promoting the service via social media etc.

We are looking for a trainee ACP to work with the team in managing the whole range of sexual health presentations on both and in-patient and outpatient basis.

Successful applicants to these adult trainee ACP posts will undertake the Advanced Clinical Practice MSc as an apprentice at The University of Nottingham and follow our supported and established three year ACP training pathway consisting of:

Year 1: appointed as a band 6/7 dependent on experience, and work within the trainee’s appropriate role in the department e.g. nurse/ physiotherapist/ pharmacist. The trainee is released 15 hours a week to complete year 1 of the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Year 2: Following successful completion of year 1 the trainee commences as a full-time supernumerary tACP and starts the work-based learning and non-medical prescribing modules. Supernumerary trainees will have dedicated consultant supervision time, consultant competency sign off, ACP mentorship and structured teaching; allowing completion of the work based learning competency portfolio. Following completion of non-medical prescribing and a percentage of the portfolio tACPs will be awarded a band 7 following an appraisal.

Year 3: following successful completion of the year 2 modules and the portfolio, tACPs will undertake a VIVA, once completed the tACPs will undertake a supported transition onto the rota with a supervisory period. When the final gateway assessments/modules are completed the trainee will advance to a band 8a qualified PACP.

Once qualified, along with clinical work across the department the individual will have weekly rostered time to undertake their own continued professional development alongside service development work. They will be given the opportunity to follow personal interests and pursuits whether that is in education, teaching, research or management.
