Pay Rates:Days: £11.20

Shift Pattern - Monday - Wednesday - 7am-3pm

We have long term placement opportunities available forBand 4 Senior Healthcare Technical Office/ Lab Assistant available at Manchester Blood Centre, specifically providing the following

  • Participate in the work of one or more NHSBT laboratories performing a range of clinical technical and scientific activities in a defined area e.g. reference/diagnostic services, donation testing or research and development.

  • Provide support, training and supervision of less experienced staff in own area of work.
  • Update donor/patient records
  • Prepare blood samples/donor/patient material for testing and storage.
  • Perform automated and manual analytical tests using complex equipment
  • Prepare and monitor working environments e.g. sterile room
  • Prepare reagents and solutions, including quality control material for users internal and external to the laboratory.
  • Operate, calibrate and undertake basic maintenance of a range of automated technology under the direction of section head.
  • Organise work activities and supervise Healthcare Scientist (HCS) support staff
  • Train HCS support staff (HTO, HHTO) and other new NHSBT staff.
  • Deal with queries from other departments, medical staff or visitors.
  • Monitor temperature of storage areas and respond to alarms. Report when out of specification.
  • Receive, despatch and reconcile reagents, samples or other goods.
  • Reject and discard samples unsuitable for testing e.g. clotted samples, inadequately labelled samples.

 

You must have had HEP B Vaccinations to do this role, as you will be working with Blood Products

You must have a minimum of GCSE grade C or above including English and Maths or equivalent qualification. You need to be confident computers and packages such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word etc.)
