Job description

The largest of our UK practices, Audit is about examining organisations and ensuring their published annual accounts are a 'true and fair' reflection of their financial performance.

In Audit, we undertake work that affects investment decisions, inspires confidence in public sector expenditure and supports economic growth. Some of the world’s biggest companies rely on us to provide independent insight, challenge and high-quality audit expertise. Today, more than ever in disruptive times, audit is a function needed by society and in the future, to support growth.

As an Audit apprentice, you’ll focus on delivering high-quality audits. You’ll learn to use new technologies and tools such as artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to analyse data and produce quality audit outcomes - all whilst studying towards a valuable professional qualification. You'll gain a breadth of experience as well as become equipped with valuable technical skills, broad commercial understanding and in-depth knowledge of different industry sectors - from the biggest multinationals through to innovative start-ups.

You'll have the resources and support you need to learn to handle each audit engagement with confidence. You'll work as part of a team and may spend time on site at the companies you're auditing, in virtual or hybrid forms of audit delivery. From the start, you'll be working on complex projects alongside some of the brightest minds in business and benefit from learning every day.

Some travel will be required for work and you can expect a greater workload at the busiest times of the year. It’s challenging but rewarding. There's also a real sense of community across our Audit team – we're collaborative and value the different perspectives and ideas that contribute to our shared goal of delivering quality work.

Years 1 and 2

Once you join the programme, you will have regular conversations about your career. Your foundation year will help you transition into life at KPMG and develop your professional skills and knowledge. You will complete the AAT Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping and the AAT Level 4 Professional Diploma in Accounting.

Years 3, 4 and 5

You’ll continue your professional development through a range of learning opportunities and build your technical skills through Audit engagements. You’ll progress in terms of your studies and work towards your Level 7 ACA or CA qualification and apprenticeship. Post qualification your personal and professional development will continue via our ‘core+’ training options, allowing you to build your own stretching and varied career within Audit.

Like the companies we audit, we're having to adapt. This means new working patterns, physical adjustments in our offices and new ways of interacting with our colleagues as well as the organisations we work with - we are harnessing technology to help underpin this change.

Training and Development:

When you join us, you can expect to carry out work and studies that are both challenging and rewarding. You’ll undertake an induction programme and have regular training sessions to develop your professional skills e.g. presentation skills, resilience, project management and team working.

The onus is on you to take ownership of your studies and help shape your learning. The programme uses a specialist Tuition provider which has innovative technology meaning the programme can be delivered via a blend of Online Classroom Live, recorded courses plus in-centre classroom courses where appropriate. This blended approach enables you to study and learn the content at a pace suited to your learning style but ensures all are at the right technical level prior to stepping into any exam.

The structure of the programme spreads the AAT examinations over the first 2 years of your training contract so that you can build your technical knowledge and can gradually apply what you are learning in your training to your workplace experience. In years 1 and 2 you will complete the AAT Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping and the AAT Level 4 Professional Diploma in Accounting.

In addition to your role responsibilities, in years 3, 4 and 5 we will support you through Accounting and Taxation apprenticeships at Level 4 and Level 7 with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ACA) or the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (CA).

KPMG is dedicated to helping ensure you have the best chance of passing your exams, and therefore have a Professional Qualification Training and Accreditation team who support KPMG apprentices, online portal content and live and recorded additional study sessions - which means there is a form of support for your every need.

Post qualification, your personal and professional development will continue via our ‘core+’ training options, allowing you to build your own challenging and varied career within Audit. You’ll have access to communities who will support and develop you to help build your skills and career.
