Job description

''A great place to be cared for; a great place to work''

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust covers a large geographic area which encompasses the Furness peninsula, the city of Lancaster and the Lake District. We provide a comprehensive range of acute and support hospital services to a population of 350,000 based around Morecambe Bay. One of the largest employers in the area, we have approximately 6,000 staff working across five sites; Furness General Hospital (Barrow in Furness), Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal), Ulverston Community Health Centre and Queen Victoria Centre (Morecambe). By joining us you will be part of a progressive team committed to diversity, excellence and achievement.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dedicated ICU team. The intensive care unit at Furness General Hospital is a 6 bedded ICU/HDU with surge capacity to 14 beds caring for level 2 & 3 patients from a variety of specialisms. The unit has recently received positive feedback in the Critical Care Peer review.

Full support will be given for you to achieve your developmental needs including a supernumerary period. You will receive a Critical Care Developmental pack to work through – a transferable document of competence, to display evidence & training undertaken.

ICU experience is preferable but not essential, experienced or newly qualified Band 5 nurses can apply. Full support for Preceptorship will be given. This is an exciting 12 month development opportunity not to be missed.

The department is committed to appraisal, to support continuous education and professional development. You will be required to participate in providing 24 hour cover, and may be required to rotate to the Patient Progression Unit.

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.
