Band 5 Staff Nurse Cardiothoracic Rotation Programme - COVID-19 in London

Job description

Come and join us at a pivotal moment in Royal Brompton & Harefield’s history. The only UK hospital to be ranked by Newsweek in the top 10 globally for cardiology has some exciting plans and we want you to be part of our journey. In January 2020 we announced our strategy to merge with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (proposed to complete in early 2021) as a first step towards our vision of creating a brand new centre that will be the global leader in the research into and treatment of heart and lung disease in patients from pre-birth to old age. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to help to shape that vision and we want you to be a part of it.

We are passionate about what we do and the patients we serve. We are an equal opportunities employer and our patients are rich in diversity. We recruit to ensure we build a similarly diverse mix across our workforce. We are a values led organisation and we are rightly proud of our world class reputation and our people.

Applicants for April and October 2021 cohorts.

Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust is a world renowned centre specialising in heart and lung disease.

We’re looking for newly qualified or experienced band 5 nurses who are ambitious and inspired by change to join our leading Cardiothoracic Rotation Programme at Harefield Hospital.

We are committed to developing our staff, which is why we are proud to be offering a bespoke 18-month specialist rotation programme. This involves six-month placements on three of our specialist areas to build up your clinical skills and knowledge and equip you for your future career in Cardiorespiratory nursing. These specialist areas include:

  • Cardiology ward

  • Surgical wards (including private patients)

  • Transplant unit

  • Critical Care units

Our programme is recognised as a leading rotation programme across London and we have showcased our great success at various national conferences.

On each new placement you will have a supernumerary period and an allocated mentor. You will work alongside practice educators, clinical nurse specialists, advance nurse practitioners and other experienced nurses.

You will have a dedicated education supervisor throughout the 18 months who will provide tailor-made professional support, facilitate learning opportunities and help you develop your role in cardiorespiratory nursing.

A comprehensive educational programme, with dedicated study days and a preceptorship programme will be provided to support your transition to working within each specialist area. This can help you get a greater understanding of the nurse that you are and the future you want in your career.

Once you have completed the rotation we will give you a guaranteed job in the Trust.

After the rotation programme, further opportunities are available to enhance your professional career development; such as university modules, MSc pathways and in house clinical education and leadership programmes that will allow you to progress to a Band 6 position.
