Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Operative to join our BB Kilpatrick team to work in Smethwick, Sandwell.
Role Purpose
To complete the installation of mechanical and domestic pipework systems on site. In a safe and efficient manner ensuring the successful delivery of the project.
BBK are seeking an experienced Building Services Technician Mechanical Craftsman (Plumbing or H&V) to join a multi skilled Construction site team that will install a range of Electrical and Mechanical MEP Components and systems which allow us to grow our unique culture as we grow the business. As an integral part of the construction team, youll need to understand every aspect of the project operation and design and act as an exemplar demonstrating expertise in Mechanical Plumbing or H&V installation, quality and exacting specifications.
You will be supporting Project and Construction leaders and managers through an exciting time of growth for Balfour Beatty, hence your ability to establish and demonstrate your personal and technical credibility and expertise to build strong working relationships. This is a full-time opportunity based from MMUH Construction Project site.
What you'll be doing
As a Mechanical Operative, your main responsibilities are as follows:
* Carry out a Point of Work Risk Assessment (POWRA) at beginning of each day and on task change
* Attend, contribute to and implement the safety and health guidance and directives given by BBK and Client Builders and from Tool box Talks (TBT) and Daily Action Briefs (DAB)
* Ensure that working areas are kept free of waste and safe areas to work
* Ensure that materials are available to tradesmen through the supervisor.
* Ensure that safe methods of work are always adopted.
* Demonstrate correct and safe use of site tools and equipment.
* Undertaking Building Services Mechanical trade tasks
* Building Services Mechanical Trades (Plumbing or HV) installation
* Dealing with specifications: installation to design drawings and contract requirements
* Demonstrate knowledge and experience in the supply/logistic operation within the construction site and comply with company processes in usage of equipment and materials.
* Demonstrate full adherence to all Health and Safety standards of BK and on construction sites
* Correct and safe use of tools required by Building services trades ( Plumbing or H&V)
* Can work to the disciplines of Project management plans and schedules
* Able to use resources at disposal for best effect and efficiency
* Undertake any other duties that reasonably occur
Who we're looking for
The following skills, qualifications and experience are essential:
* In depth knowledge of a Building Services Trade: Mechanical (Plumbing or H&V) to Craftsman/ Technician Level 3 in line with BESA standards of training.
* Will hold relevant NVQ level 3 qualifications in line with recognised industry standards.
* Will have demonstrated competence through obtaining a further relevant qualification, (e.g. inspection, testing and commissioning of installations or welding.)
* Keen to continue learning and developing their skillset, having a growth mindset
* Hold a level 3 qualification in a Building Services Mechanical Trade ( Plumbing or H&V )
* Good general level of Education GCSE x 5 : Maths, English and ICT
* Ideally 5+ years of Building Services Construction site experience in in a project based organisation
* Experienced in Building Services construction, installation and operative management
* Experience should include a focus on performance management of less experienced operatives and trainees
