General Function
The function of the Assistant Accountant is to assist in the maintenance of accurate accounting records to reflect all business transactions undertaken by the company in order to assist with the smooth and efficient running of the business and to enable the preparation of accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements. You will be reporting directly to the Company Accountant who in turn reports directly to the Managing Director - Finance.
You will be responsible for:
* purchase ledger accounting transactions including statement reconciliation and follow up
* expense claim & credit card processing as well as petty cash (including currency) control
* supplier payment runs
* maintaining prepayments ledger for new and expired contracts & future transactions
* updating of Kyriba expected cashflows and weekly reconciliations
* vendor payment forecasts
* maintaining fixed assets register & calculating depreciation
* stock valuation and the maintenance of stock records
* maintaining register of recharges
* assisting in some sales ledger accounting transactions - commission invoices & recharges
* Utilities - contract renewals
During the month end process and production of the monthly Management Accounts, Group Reporting and monthly cash flow forecasts;
Specific duties for which you will be responsible:
* journal postings
* late invoice accruals
updating & confirming accuracy of prepayments ledger
* bank reconciliations & other control account reconciliations
* updating and reviewing stock volumes & values, following monthly counts, for entry into management accounts & audit schedules
* maintaining the fixed asset register, posting of depreciation & audit schedules
* posting required data to Group Reporting packages
* Kyriba monthly cash flow input
* improving controls and reporting processes
You may also be required to perform ad hoc finance related projects, which fit with your responsibilities and working hours.
Qualifications and experience
The Assistant Accountant will ideally have:
* a minimum of 2 years' experience in a finance/accounting role
* experience of posting journals and strong understanding of accounting fundamentals (debits/credits, prepayments/accruals, etc.)
* AAT qualification or the early stages of CIMA/ACCA is desirable but not essential
* advanced working knowledge of Excel
* excellent communication skills
* an aptitude for learning to use new accounting software
* team player experience and be able to promote and sustain a constructive, supportive and friendly working relationship and be prepared to do what is required
Salary: £19000 - £23000 with pension as well as bonus potential at 5%
The role is ideal for a trainee AAT with some experience
Possible negotaition on working hours... between 30 - 37.5 hours over 5 days
