Junior Backend Developer

Location: Anywhere – remote working

Ethical decision making can make or break a firm. At Principia Advisory we are developing data-driven products to improve ethical decision making. Gathering data in the form of surveys is a thing of the past; we are looking for new ways to reach our participants. Therefore, we need your support.

This is a short-term contract at 1-2 days per week that may develop into a long-term role in our growing Data Team.

The Role

• You will work with our Data Team to explore new ways of gathering data and develop data-driven tools to help both our clients and consultants 
• You will develop products that analyze and improve ethical culture 
• You will learn how to test and iterate a product 
• You will learn and grow in your use of data-centric software 
• You will provide insight, awareness and interpretation of data for the team 
• You will ensure consistent quality of data collection 
• You will enable UX Designers to develop products in a data-driven way 
• You will explore and develop Machine Learning approaches for our products 

Essential Skills

• An interest in backend development for data-driven products 
• Experience with at least one programming/scripting language (ideally Python and/or R) 
• An understanding of databases and data architectures 
• A strong team player and can also work autonomously 
• An interest in improving decision-making in organizations 
• Able to take an initial idea and make it work 
• Able to work in a fast-paced, intelligent team

Desirable Skills

• Experience with software/architecture development best practices 
• Experience working with cloud services (ideally AWS) 
• Experience with SQL 
• Experience working with web APIs (both usage and development) 
• Possess knowledge to secure applications against potential attackers 
• Have an understanding of Statistics and/or Machine Learning 
• Experience with, or are curious to learn other languages or frameworks (e.g. RShiny, JavaScript)
