Answer’s Development Academy is a 12-week programme that equips talent with the most contemporary technical skills and process understanding, fast tracking them to become project ready as .NET Software Engineers at Answer.

This programme combines structured training, self-learning and hands-on application development, all while giving you the opportunity to understand development within an agile delivery context. The programme also provides excellent mentorship from our team of digital experts, those on the Academy learn directly from those pushing the boundaries in our live Answer projects.

Job Type: Academy Software Developer

Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire (Upon Academy graduation, role may include travel, if/when project requires it)

Salary: Academy Salary; upon graduation salary increase + bonus + pension + career development

The Programme:

During the Academy, learning is structured around three key phases. Each area contains a variety of learning styles, from personal projects to group workshops to live client projects:

Phase 1: To begin, you will learn the fundamentals of back-end development, this can include working with SQL, Mongo, C#, .NET Core, REST API, SOLID Principles, Onion Architecture, Swagger Docs. To prepare you for delivering on an agile project, you will learn and begin to use agile methodologies such as SCRUM and learn about agile techniques and processes such as the daily stand-ups, sprint planning, agile requirements gathering / user stories, agile testing and the ‘Definition of Done’. This phase also involves continual check-points and an assessment in week 4 in order to progress into Phase 2.

Phase 2: In this phase, you will develop a deeper understanding and working knowledge of the latest front-end technologies, these can include: Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, CSS, Bulma/Bootstrap and Aurelia/VueJS. You will continue to learn about agile project delivery through this phase in preparation to progress into Phase 3. This phase also involves continual check-points and an assessment in week 8 in order to progress into Phase 3.

Phase 3: In this final phase, you will be embedded within a team and have the opportunity to contribute to a live Answer project. You will experience our agile project delivery processes first-hand, while still being supported by your mentors to ensure you hit the ground running! This phase also includes continual check-points and ongoing assessment through-out the phase in order to graduate from the Academy.

The Successful Applicant:

• You will be a soon to be or recent graduate (any discipline), with a keen and active interest in application development, and looking to take those next steps to kickstart your professional career.
• Be actively pursuing an interest in application development (via self-studying, or in a professional capacity if possible).
• Have a demonstrable thirst for learning (including self-learning) and forever have your eyes peeled for the next new technology to pick up and try out.
• Be excited by the opportunity to work in agile teams to deliver real value to clients.
• Have an ability to cope with an intense learning environment.
• Be excited by the prospect of working closely and collaboratively with our clients to deliver outcomes.

Desirable Expertise/Knowledge:

• Knowledge of/Interest in agile delivery methodologies.
• Career Progression:
• By graduating our Academy, you will become an Answer .NET Developer and you will be equipped to work as part of one of our live projects. This role will involve working in agile teams to deliver innovative solutions for Answer Digital’s customers. Our Academy graduates often progress at pace after completing this 12-week programme. We have seen one of our graduates progress from ‘Graduate’ to ‘Lead Consultant’ in just 3 years after 3 successive promotions! – and this isn’t an exception!
