Job description

Working in an in vitro laboratory environment, to ensure the timely provision of cultured cells for in vivo and in vitro projects, and perform imaging as required. Where required, to conduct in vitro cell based and biochemical assays for client and research projects, and perform duties to support the smooth running of the laboratory. To train and provide support to more junior members of the team. To troubleshoot problems and to make a significant contribution to the practical delivery of projects. This role will be performed under minimal supervision in a lab based environment in accordance with health and safety requirements and to Crown Bioscience UK company standards.

Key Responsibilities

· To have significant tissue culture experience, with the knowledge to grow and expand cells appropriately to be used for in vitro and in vivo studies.

· To provide support and training to more junior members of the team with regard to tissue culture and related tasks.

· To perform investigations when cell lines do not grow as expected, with the aim of keeping cultures in optimal condition.

· To liaise with other departments to schedule in work to fit in with deadlines.

· To prepare cell expansion plans to ensure that in vivo initiations occur on a pre-agreed date.

· To identify problems associated with their experiments and discuss and agree solutions with supervisor and other team members.

· To prepare cell cultures, and oversee more junior members of the team for in vivo and in vitro studies, to agreed standards and productivity, in line with SOPs.

· Where required to support the running of in vitro assays and in vivo imaging.

· To be responsible for and ensure that the results of their experiments are recorded accurately, in a timely fashion to the required standard.

· To effectively communicate results to other members of the team, or other functions as required.

· To be an effective team member possessing a range of practical skills and demonstrating flexibility at all times.

· To proactively contribute to and suggest ways of improving Crown Bioscience UK's processes in the workplace.

· To learn and apply new scientific methods and show self-awareness regarding personal and technical training needs.

· To maintain an awareness of current developments in the scientific literature and to make effective use of appropriate internet search tools.

Technical Skills

Competence in the following technical skills:

· Good aseptic cell culture techniques.

· Significant experience working with cell cultures.

· Performing cell based assays accurately and reproducibly.

· Biochemical and/or molecular biology methods.

· Analytical skills.

· Proficient in Microsoft office programmes.

Personal Skills

· Ability to mentor junior members of the department.

· Good organizational skills and the ability to direct others.

· Good attention to detail.

· Flexible attitude and the ability to work in teams.

· Ability to prioritize effectively, manage multiple tasks and work to strict deadlines.

· Proactive with the ability to generate ideas and translate them into practical solutions.

· Good verbal and written English is required for this role.

Education and Experience

· B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in a relevant subject, or HNC/HND and equivalent level of understanding developed through relevant scientific work experience.

· At least 3 years work experience in an in vitro lab environment

· Have an understanding of in vitro science and how it contributes to and should influence projects. Have an understanding of how different scientific disciplines contribute to and work together within a project
