Introduction

Are you an Occupational Therapy Assistant looking to work for a company that supports, values and recognises your dedication to delivering great healthcare?

You will work 30 hours a week alongside a multidisciplinary team at Cefn Carnau in Cardiff, a low secure/rehabilitation service for adults with a primary diagnosis of a learning disability who may also present with mental illness, personality disorders and an autistic spectrum condition.

Working within the Occupational Therapy department, you will support the planning and running of individual and group sessions, implement recovery and rehabilitation programmes and oversee therapeutic activities to promote independence and encourage service users to engage in their care plans to reach their identified goals.

As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will enjoy a range of CPD and training opportunities to achieve your career aspiration, including undertaking Breakaway and Therapeutic Management of Violence and aggression (TMVA) training.

Other responsibilities:

  • Document service users’ progress in line with departmental policy including entries within Care Notes.
  • Provide Registered Occupational Therapist with written and verbal feedback on service user’s progression 
  • With guidance from the Occupational Therapist, to evaluate the effectiveness of the occupational therapy interventions delivered

To be successful in this role:

  • Knowledge of the principle of clinical governance and CPA / CTP process
  • Knowledge of current legislation including the MHA, and legislation specific to this setting
  • Minimum of 2 years previous experience of working as an Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Experience of working with service users with challenging behaviour and learning disabilities
