Ward Sister/Charge Nurse – Community Hospital Ward (Reading)

We have an exciting opportunity for you to enhance your leadership and clinical skills as a Sister/charge nurse at Oakwood Unit.

You will be part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team which will offer assessment and treatment for patients in our Oakwood Unit – a Community Hospital Ward within the Prospect Park Hospital site. You will provide clinical leadership and clinical advice for the ward team through supervision, education of students, nurses, Multi Therapy Assistants, Health Care assistant and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

You will be able to identify service development needs, contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of the service and have responsibility for defined projects.

You will be able to provide decisive and effective clinical input and demonstrate leadership qualities, effective communication skills, a flexible approach and an ability to work under pressure, both as part of a team and independently.

About the role:

  • Act as a role model, supervising and mentoring junior and unqualified staff on the ward
  • Effectively manage the ward in the absence of the ward manager, reporting any actions/ occurrences to them in a timely manner
  • Lead a nursing team, delegate on a day to day basis the workload for the team and support/ advice junior staff in the delivery of care
  • Promote and maintain a high standard of individualized holistic care by actively contributing to the planning delivery and evaluation of care
  • To monitor the patient’s condition and report concerns or changes to the appropriate professionals

The 3 “must haves” for you to be considered for this role

  1. Previous experience of working as a Band 5 nurse within a ward situation
  2. Reasonable level of fitness (patient manual handling required)
  3. Adult nursing qualification along with NMC registration
