This is an exciting fixed-term graduate level opportunity that will offer the right candidate the opportunity to share and use their expert subject knowledge to accelerate the progress of pupils in Science. The successful candidate will be passionate about Science and have high expectations of every child regardless of their background. They will recognise that some children require additional support to make the excellent progress we aspire to for all our learners. This role will have a significant impact on closing attainment gaps for disadvantaged pupils.

As an Science Ambitions Tutor, you will help to overcome the barriers to success faced by vulnerable pupils. Every Pupil Premium pupil and/or their family will have contact twice per week from their Ambition Tutor.  This funding is targeted at supporting pupils who are more likely to underachieve compared to their peers. Pupils you support will have a range of abilities. Your expertise will be used to address the current underlying inequalities in attainment between children eligible for these premiums and their peers by ensuring that your specialist subject knowledge and skills reach the pupils who need it most. You will work as a member of the Science department team, supporting and developing teaching and learning with a particular emphasis on closing gaps in pupil attainment. You will need to demonstrate that you will bring Science subject-specific skills, experience and an approach to young people and their learning that will enable them to develop over time. You will need to have the capacity to be creative and innovative, where appropriate, in the approaches you take. Guidance, supervision, coaching and training will be integral to how you are supported in the role.

You will work alongside the schools very experienced English department to monitor the progress of the pupils you support and to plan, modify and implement interventions as needed. If you are a graduate of a any Science related subject and you are looking to gain valuable experience prior to applying for a Schools Direct Programme or PGCE or simply wish to help raise aspiration and attainment within your subject area then you are encouraged to apply. 

To be successful in this role, you must have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to build excellent rapport with young people and adults and have strong numeracy, literacy and IT skills. At times, you may be required to tutor remotely so it is imperative that you have access to a good Wi-Fi connection. Full training will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
