Trainee Connections Designer in Berkshire

What is the Role

?

Our Commercial team play a key role in the progression to a low carbon future; as well as responding to challenging changes in our licence obligations and growing levels of competition. As a Trainee Connections Designer, you will ensure that we continue to deliver the highest level of service by providing customers with designs and quotations for both import and export connections to our network, as well as helping to ensure Guaranteed Standards are met. 

Your projects will be varied, and will involve designing, costing and quoting new electrical connections for domestic, commercial and industrial developments, at voltages up to 11kV and 33kV. Projects may also include the connection of distributed generation equipment, under Engineering Recommendation Document G59.

Due to the regulated nature of our business, all timescales set for our connections projects are heavily monitored, and therefore must be produced and issued to customers within the Guaranteed Standards timescales. In line with regulation, all our designs must be compliant with all appropriate rules and regulations in place, as well as meeting all engineering specifications and financial targets.

What do I need?

Educated to HNC level as a minimum, in a relevant electrical qualification, you will have previous experience in a power systems environment with an excellent working knowledge of both low and high voltage distribution and Power Systems networks.

Due to the regulated nature of our business, all timescales set for our connection’s projects are heavily monitored, and therefore must be produced and issued to customers within the Guaranteed Standards timescales. It is also imperative that our designs are compliant with all appropriate rules and regulations in place, as well as meeting all engineering specifications and financial targets. It is therefore crucial that you are a strong communicator, with excellent organisation skills and a strength in developing and nourishing positive working relationships.

You should have a flair for picking up and working with new IT systems. You’ll have the opportunity to visit your clients, therefore, a valid UK driving licence is required.

Last but certainly not least, you’ll have a special appreciation for safety, and ensuring our safety values are at the forefront of your working.
