Quarriers South Ayrshire Youth Support Service provides residential accommodation for 7 young people aged 16-26, who are or are at risk of becoming homeless. We support YP to manage their tenancies and develop independent living skills.

Quarriers have Investors in People Platinum accreditation and are one of only two social care organisations in Scotland to have this prestigious award. We also pay sleepover hours at £9.30 per hour.

We are looking for 2 Part Time Nightshift Transition Mentors who have a strong desire to help create a positive and supportive environment for the young people we support to live inclusive and meaningful lives.

The posts available are permanent Nightshift: 11 hour shifts - 21:15 – 08:15, 2 nights per week over 3 weeks, 1 night on the 4th week.

The main objectives of this role include:

  • To provide on-going support and a positive role model for young people who are involved with the Service.

  • To support young people to access opportunities to engage positively within their communities through social diversionary activities and inclusion, promote positive social network and encourage engagement with friends and family as appropriate.

  • Work directly with young people to gain their trust and to support them to engage in learning experiences that promote their educational attainment, academic qualifications, self confidence, independent living skills and resilience.

  • To promote active and responsible citizenship, including being a responsible tenant.

  • To monitor and record to a high level of detail and accuracy the assessment and progress of young people supported in the service. Produce and present reports as requested, relating to individual young people’s progress.

  • To demonstrate high level of engagement skills and utilise creativity and innovation in direct work with young people.

  • Contribute to a positive team ethos of on-going practice development and innovation, this includes practice/philosophy and policies of the organisation.

  • To have a good level of understanding and empathy regarding issues affecting young people who have experienced adversity and be able to evidence this in day to day practice.
