Salary: £24,500

Have you got a real passion for teaching Maths and empowering young people?

Are you looking for a new and extremely rewarding job role?

If so, then we have the perfect role for you!

Training 2000 is at the heart of the Lancashire economy, developing talent and training the next generation. We are growing and an exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of a Functional Skills Tutor with a Maths specialism to work with both the Functional Skills and the Traineeship Team.

If you haven’t already heard of us, we are part of the University of Central Lancashire Group and have over 50 years’ experience of delivering high quality technical and professional training programmes to industry and individuals.

We have a strong heritage, skilled workforce, state of the art facilities and above all a great team ethos. We are on a mission to deliver learning excellence and create outstanding talent for Lancashire and beyond and we firmly believe our people are our biggest asset in achieving this. Our customers are diverse and their businesses varied, from micro businesses such as Dental Practices to global companies such as Rolls Royce.

Role Responsibilities:

The role that we are recruiting for is part of our Functional Skills team, which is made up of 6 tutors who are all dedicated to helping people improve their core maths, English and IT skills. This role has the added advantage of being dedicated to working within the Traineeship department which means you will work closely with a wider team who deliver employability skills and engagement activities to young people.

We’re looking for a maths specialist that will help learners apply maths in a real, vocational and practical way to support their studies and workplace aspirations. You will be responsible for delivering predominately on our Traineeship provision where our learners are all on a short and intensive journey to find an apprenticeship. You will need to be able to embed maths by stretching and challenging the learners in a relatively short space of time.

As a tutor you will be able to build good rapport with the learners, understand their initial learning needs and be able to provide them with knowledge and skills to help them pass a level 1 or level 2 exam depending on their starting point. Your sessions will need to be engaging and due to Covid-19 have the ability to be delivered face to face on our Blackburn site or remotely through Teams. Don’t worry if you’ve never delivered remotely before, full training on digital platforms and support for remote teaching can be provided for the right candidate.

We are looking for someone who has previous experience teaching maths in group settings, ideally with 16-19 year olds. Ideally you will have an appropriate qualification in maths and will be a positive, creative and an excellent communicator with a strong passion for maths and empowering young people. Teaching qualifications whilst advantageous are not essential as full training can be provided. Remote delivery is becoming increasingly important in the current landscape, therefore a willingness to deliver through a variety of online and video platforms is essential.

In return, you will have the opportunity to join two fantastic teams in supporting people who are starting their careers. You will have the opportunity to really make a difference to people’s lives and how they apply maths in a practical way.

Terms and Conditions:

For this role, you will receive a salary of £24,500 and a competitive benefits package. In addition, we believe in providing more than just salary and benefits and we’ll give you time and support to develop your career.

To give you an idea of our benefits, we firmly believe in having a good work life balance and therefore, they include 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays. This entitlement will increase with time to 32 days and you are also able to purchase up to 5 days extra per year. In addition to this, from the day you join, you will receive life assurance whilst employed at 4 x your annual salary. Finally, with pensions being an important part of people’s career, following 6 months service you will be entitled to enrol into our Group Private Pension scheme where we will match contributions up to 5%.

We firmly believe that everyone is unique in their own way and we are looking for people from all walks of life who will join our inclusive culture. We are committed to equality, diversity and access for all which makes Training 2000 a great place to work.

Safeguarding of our learners is at the heart of everything that we do. Therefore, due to having children (under 18’s) on our site, all appointments are subject to the receipt of a satisfactory enhanced child workforce disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS; formally the CRB), or a check via the Update Service on a relevant enhanced disclosure. Further information on these checks can be obtained from the Government website.

If this sounds like the kind of role and place for you then we are really excited to hear from you. If you’d like an informal discussion ahead of applying, please contact a member of our HR team on (phone number removed) and they will be more than happy to help
