Description

The track function carries out renewals and refurbishments of the track infrastructure. Work varies from re-railing & re-sleepering on plain line to refurbishment of S&C (Switches and Crossings) which ranges from re-gauging to changing switches to complete panel renewals. Most of the work types are carried out in night time possessions (when no trains are running) and at weekends. The work is varied and offers an opportunity for growth.

Directing a team to deliver maintenance and project works, you will be a hands-on champion of organisation, quality, performance and – in everything you do – safety.

About the role (External)

In this key role, you will manage and direct a Works Delivery team to deliver a range of renewal and refurbishment projects. Driving the achievement of business goals and performance measures, you will champion the very highest standards. In particular, you will be responsible for the safety of everyone on site – a responsibility you’ll take extremely seriously.

 You’ll play a hands-on role – engaging the team, developing individuals and checking the quality of work. You’ll manage the preparation of work specifications and plans, and the deployment of resources. What’s more, you’ll identify and implement improvement initiatives spanning everything from safety and asset performance, through to reliability, productivity and efficiency.

  Essential Criteria

· Experience of managing and directing a team

· Experience of managing the production and delivery of a comprehensive and compliant work programme

·Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team

·Knowledge of discipline-specific maintenance, inspection, faulting and renewal techniques

·Able to lead and implement change and improvement initiatives

·Excellent communication and influencing skills, both in person and in writing

·Comfortable working shifts including days, nights and weekends

  Desirable Criteria

·Able to coach, influence and develop others

· Knowledge of the Construction, Design and Management Regulations

· Knowledge of the construction management processes and techniques

·Hold or be working towards an NVQ level 3 or 4 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained an appropriate level of knowledge through equivalent relevant experience

·Knowledge of budget management and cost/waste control processes and techniques

·Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need

This role involves days, nights and weekend working, and is a safety critical role so subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment.
