This is a fantastic opportunity to work in the Durham University International Study Centre as a Senior Student Support Coordinator (Welfare). The Senior Student Support Coordinator (Welfare) is a key role within the Student Support Team. In this exciting job role, will coordinate the day to day running of the Welfare and pastoral provision on campus, as well as be a Deputy Designated Safeguarding lead for the centre. In addition this position will also coordinate the Welfare/Safeguarding aspect of student induction and will also support the wider Student Experience team as required. This is a job full of variety where you will engage with a number of different people including students, centre staff, University services, local authorities and external services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To be a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) and work closely with other DDSL’s and the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
  • To deputise for the Head of Student Support in the role of Prevent and Hate Crime Lead.
  • To coordinate the work of the Student Support Officers (Welfare) to ensure that high standards of welfare and pastoral support are available, including the daily under 18 check in, health registration, accommodation-related tasks and the partnership with the College Guardians. care, supporting students with welfare and health issues through physical, emotional
  • To provide a high level of pastoral and mental health support.
  • To take a lead role on identifying and supporting students with additional needs due to health / SEND.
  • To lead on screening medical needs, writing support plans and assisting students to access healthcare professionals.
  • To manage a caseload of students, providing support where appropriate.
  • To coordinate the planning and implementation of an annual schedule of welfare events and promotional activities, liaising with external agencies to actively engage students in the promotion of health and wellbeing.
  • To attend meetings with external agencies/organisations, including; care providers, the crisis team, College Guardians, the local council and the police and fire brigade.
  • To deal, when required, with out-of-office hours queries regarding student arrivals (to be part of the ‘on-call’ rota for arrivals).
  • To be a member of the Escalation Team and be part of the on-call rota for emergency situations.
  • When required, deal with welfare-related issues out of normal office hours.
  • EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of providing welfare, emotional and pastoral care to students or young adults. (Essential)
  • Event or project management experience (Essential)
  • Level 2 Safeguarding (Essential)
  • Experience of working in administration (Essential)
  • Knowledge of data protection regulations (Essential)
