Further Information

The North Pennines AONB Partnership is seeking two trainees for two of our flagship Nature Restoration projects for a period of one year with an anticipated start date in March or April 2021.

Are you passionate about the environment and keen to support nature recovery on a landscape scale? The North Pennines AONB Partnership are looking for two trainees to follow a course of conservation training with our staff unit and our partners.

The North Pennines AONB Partnership has three flagship nature recovery schemes: Fellfoot Forward, High Helbeck and Tees-Swale: Naturally Connected. Each project will have traineeship opportunities. Further information and a list of trainee responsibilities on the Fellfoot Forward and High Helbeck projects can be found in the attached documentation. The Tees-Swale: Naturally Connected traineeships are being advertised separately, but in a parallel time frame.

Trainees will learn about the conservation of protected landscapes, support our habitat restoration initiatives and help us connect communities with the natural world. These traineeships will primarily be supporting conservation officer roles in our staff team.

If you are committed to nature conservation, sustainable agriculture or rural communities and keen to develop your skills and experience, we want to hear from you.

The successful candidate will be self-employed. Bursary payments equate to the hourly rate of the living wage determined by Durham County Council, however, as it is a training payment, there are no sickness or holiday payments and it is not taxable. Bursary payments will be made fortnightly in arrears on receipt of a timesheet and subject to satisfactory progress. If successful, you will need to register as self-employed and obtain appropriate public liability insurance.

Applicants should hold a Level 3 qualification in a subject related to conservation or the natural environment and/or land management together with having experience of volunteering or work experience in nature conservation or agriculture.

Interviews are scheduled to be held via Microsoft Teams on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March 2021.
