Junior Litigation Executive
Role
The primary role of a Junior Paralegal is to assist the Serious Injury Team with essential case management and the progression of cases by collating, reviewing and redacting medical records. A large part of the role also involves the drafting of liability and quantum witness statements. From time to time there will be occasions when other duties become necessary in order to assist the team, such as attending meetings outside of the office with counsel or attending court hearings.
Main Responsibilities
Reviewing the following medical records – to include, but not necessarily limited, to the following:-
Medical records (hospital, GP, physio, psychiatric, case management etc) Employment records College/School records DWP records HMRC (i.e Inland Revenue) tax records Business Accounts Chasing relevant organisations for the required records Liaising with or chasing Premex (or any other medical agencies) in circumstances where Premex are applying for records Ensuring chase-ups are diarised using Task List and actioned when due and to report any persistent delays to a team supervisor On receipt of relevant records, to ensure they are arranged in logical and sequential order To ensure relevant records are kept separate from each other, whether by utilising Lever Arch files or, if “paperless”, by ensuring they are placed in Proclaim as a separate document in the appropriate folder To paginate medical records, when instructed, to ensure ease of referencing To liaise with Silva Legal or other pagination service to ensure their compliance with service standards and turnaround times and to report persistent delays to a team supervisor To redact medical records, where appropriate and when instructed To provide a summary by way of a file note or memo, containing views and thoughts on any issues arising from the client’s records worthy of consideration The drafting of initial quantum statements, care statements and straightforward liability statements Attending meetings outside of the office when required, to assist with note taking or with taking basic witness statements Progressing files in line with KPIs and chargeable hours target
Required Skills and Experience
Good client care skills – i.e. the ability to speak to client in a professional and courteous manner The ability to interact with colleagues and express opinions in a professional and courteous way Good time management – i.e. the ability to complete given tasks within an acceptable timescale and to work within any given deadlines The ability to work to a task list Good IT skills, preferably a working knowledge of Proclaim or other similar case management system Excellent attention to detail The ability to prepare clear and concise file notes and memos with accuracy The ability to apply initiative and forward thinking Preferably some legal knowledge Compliance with office manual procedures
