Learning Support Assistant - Education and Training

LSA & Mentor opportunities within the Special Educational Needs and Disability sector.

As a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) will give you solid experience working within the SEN sector and will be of great value to aspiring Forensic, Clinical or Education Psychologists, as well as aspiring Youth and Criminal Justice Officers, Social Workers and Therapists.

These roles involve supporting children that have special needs that include Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Emotional Behaviour Disorder (EBD), Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Are you a Psychology Graduate and want to pursue a career in Child/Education Psychology? Are you an aspiring Case Worker or Criminal Justice Worker, or an Aspiring Music or Art therapist? Have you been thinking about Occupational Therapy or Speech and Language Therapy?

Would you like to work with some of the finest Special Education Needs (SEN) Teachers, Psychologists and Therapists in Surrey's PRUs and SEN schools?

This SEN LSA role will place you in a Special Education Needs Schools where you will be working with some of the most vulnerable children in society. This role is about supporting, guiding and showing them a new way to embrace learning, to value education and preparing them for life out of school.

Empathy and patience are key in this role - the seeds you plant to aid students in their behaviour will often not be apparent, as you will be contributing to what is a long process. There are no magic answers or miracle cures.

Children in the school present with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH) often struggling to manage their emotions and behaviour and as a result, they find it difficult to make and sustain relationships with adults and peers.

These difficulties may present as withdrawal and isolation, as well as challenging, disruptive or other concerning behaviour. These children often struggle to engage in a learning environment, frequently display inappropriate behaviour and therefore benefit from additional support in order to achieve their potential.

*** Supporting young students and understanding their traumas

*** £65 to £75 per day Monday to Friday 08.15 to 16.15 with immediate start

*** Working 1:1 with pupils with varying degrees of SEN from Mild Learning Difficulties to Severe Autism

*** Fantastic CPD provided by teachers and tutors - ideal for when you start an MSc or research project

*** Opportunity to interview and spend the day in the school, seeing how the school and students operate
