Teacher of Food Technology with TLR (part-time or full-time) in Stratford

Job description

This is an exciting time to be joining one of the most pioneering schools in the country. We are looking for an excellent food technology teacher who is passionate about their subject area and ready to develop their practice in a dynamic and innovative teaching environment. Since first introducing food technology into the curriculum two years ago, the subject has become increasingly popular with a growing number of students choosing to study it at Key Stage 4. Last year, some of our Hospitality and Catering students were accepted onto the Junior Chef Academy weekend cookery school at Westminster Kingsway College and were so inspired that they have chosen to continue their studies Post-16. We also offer cooking projects within Curriculum 21, a timetabled period of 200-minutes a week dedicated to real-world projects that encourage students to make a difference to their community and demonstrate entrepreneurship. We are particularly interested in developing more interdisciplinary projects in Curriculum 21 that includes initiatives such as using our allotment to run ‘seed-to-plate’ projects, but ultimately looking for a candidate that has ideas and drive to bring the subject alive through projects. The ideal candidate would have experience of teaching food technology at Key Stage 4 as the role would include a TLR for developing our L1/2 Hospitality & Catering qualification, whilst also shaping the general curriculum in food technology. You will have sole use of our kitchen classroom, which is one of a number of specialist spaces within the Art, Design and Technology (ADT) department, of which you would be a valued member. You can find out more about the department at: www.s21art.weebly.com TLR responsibility • To develop the curriculum for food technology up to Key Stage 4 • Liaise with the ADT Technician around technical support and ordering of equipment/supplies for the kitchen • To manage a budget for Food Technology • To be responsible for the administration of examinations of Level 1/2 vocational qualification at Key Stage 4 and liaise with the exams officer and Head of ADT • To build links with outside partners and develop enrichment opportunities for students where possible The successful candidate will: • Have a passion for cooking and healthy eating • Understand the importance of health and safety and food hygiene • Be organised and pay attention to detail. • Have excellent communication skills • Be self-motivated and work well in teams, enjoying collaboration • Visionary and excited about the potential for cooking to bring people together • Enjoys building partnerships and creating opportunities beyond the classroom Since we opened in 2012 we have put learning and teaching at the heart of everything we do.
