Make Adventures with Technology in East Devon

Join an exciting adventure tourism company, and use your IT skills to really make a difference.

20 - 37 hours per week
Between £9.00 and £18.00 Per Hour

What are you going to do:

With a UK owner, Kingfisher Journeys runs activities like kayaking, hiking and mountain biking in Rwanda, East Africa. As featured in The Sunday Times, on BBC Travel, in National Geographic Traveller and many other places, it links these activities with safaris and even a chance to visit a family of gorillas to create really amazing tours!

Using some online websites, that manage all the complicated tour designing, scheduling and payment processing, it’s the only company in Rwanda that offers online booking of activities and tours. And, despite the pandemic, travel to Rwanda is on the Green List of most European countries, much of the Middle East and many other places so there are lots of clients wanting to book trips from countries all over the world.

The thing is, however, that with lots of different kinds of activities and services going to make up a tour - including hotel rooms, transport and permits - that have to be purchased from other companies, the online websites need to be maintained, managed and linked up with other systems so that clients can accurately see what is available to book.

The purpose of this job is therefore to configure the booking systems, create interfaces between websites, set up and maintain some Google Sheets that are used to collect data and learn how to write simple scripts in systems like App Sheet and App Script. These will help to maintain accurate data and mean that the company can more accurately and efficiently sell its services to clients. Which is a really big deal!

With a logical way of solving problems, you’ll need to have good maths skills, a keen interest in computer programming and how to use spreadsheets. It would be great if you were studying or have a STEM or computing degree, but this is not essential.

Based just outside Exeter (3 stops by train from Exeter Central), to begin, this will be a fixed-term contract or summer job if you prefer. However, you could be offered a permanent job at the end of the fixed term. And, you may even get a trip to Africa to go kayaking and see the gorillas!
