The Orthopaedic Short Stay Unit (OSSU) is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, forward thinking, committed and motivated Staff Nurse with excellent communication skills to join our progressive and supportive team.
OSSU is a 25 bedded Orthopaedic Short Stay Ward. It consists of 12 inpatients beds and 13 day case beds. It opens on Monday morning at 07:00 and closes the following Saturday at 20:00. OSSU is a busy but very rewarding ward with patients having knee surgery following sports related injuries to hip, shoulder, foot, hand and spinal surgeries. Many of our patients follow enhanced recovery pathways which enables them to be discharged home safely as a day case or the following day. We have a broad spectrum of patients and surgeries which provides you with the opportunity to build a wide range of skills and knowledge within Orthopaedics.
If you are a newly qualified nurse, you will join the Oxford University Hospital’s Foundation Programme. This is the start of your journey with our Trust and will link to a clear career pathway to continue developing your skills over the coming years. The 1st year of the programme consists of up to twelve study days aiming to follow on and develop the learning you have achieved during your training and help you apply this to potentially complex clinical situations.
The NOC offers the right individual the perfect opportunity to enhance and build on existing skills achieved during undergraduate training, when taking their first steps in their nursing career. In return we can provide support, guidance and excellent professional development opportunities. You will be supported by our Practice Development Team to complete the Foundation Programme and Band 5 Development programme. You will be encouraged to complete your mentorship qualification and to take on extended clinical skills. We are also developing an accredited PG Cert in Orthopaedic Practice.
