An exciting new position has arisen for a band 7 Lead Nurse to join the recently established Oxfordshire Post-Covid Service, working alongside a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic and coordinated care to patients. The post-holder will join the team based at the Churchill Hospital to support patients following discharge with Covid-19 and community patients struggling with post-covid-19 syndrome (‘Long Covid’).
The Oxfordshire Post-Covid Service was established in January 2021 and is one of the first fully integrated services joining hospital with community care to provide continuity and individualised patient-centred management. The clinic is comprised of Respiratory, Rehabilitation and Psychiatry consultants and Advanced Health Professionals including a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and Psychologist. The dedicated post-Covid Community Team at Oxford health made up of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists and includes Psychological support via IAPTs (Improving Access for Psychological Therapy). A range of support and interventions are available to post-Covid sufferers ranging from 1:1 input to group sessions and the utilisation of online platforms and apps, such as ‘Your Covid Recovery’ and ‘Living With’.
As this is a new condition, prior experience is not required but we are looking for candidates with enthusiasm, flexibility and a desire to learn. The post-holder will be supervised by the clinical lead (Dr Emily Fraser) and supported by members of the multidisciplinary team to gain the skills and confidence to assist in patient triage and assessment. In conjunction with the team, they will help coordinate care, case manage selected patients and provide helpline advice. They will assist in the evaluation of community-based interventions and help pioneer strategies to improve the care of these patients. Excellent communication and team-working skills are essential and it is anticipated that the post-holder will liaise with other Long-Covid centres to drive forward quality standards. This post will also provide an opportunity for clinical research with studies currently underway evaluating the factors driving Long-Covid.
This is initially a one-year fixed contract and secondments will be considered.
