Help protect children from Covid.

As part of the phase 3 of the Covid vaccination programme we are planning over the winter to vaccinate school age children. We are recruiting posts now to support this activity, with these new roles being hosted with the existing School Aged Immunisation service.

As a new vaccine, the Covid 19 programme requires registered Deputy Sister Immunisation nurses to administer the vaccine. By joining us, we will be able to share our expertise of delivering large scale school immunisation programmes with you to deliver this important programme.

We are offering a variety of flexible contracts to match the employment needs of available staff and allow us to scale up our workforce to deliver these programmes.

These roles are offered initially on a fixed term contract until the 31st March 2022 to match the expected funding for the project. The contract may be extended beyond this date, subject to the continuation of service delivery and external funding. Alternatively, if you are only interested in bank work, we would also like to hear from you- in this case we would be looking for staff who could commit to regular hours to support the programme.

Deputise and take charge of the given area regularly in the absence of the Sister / Charge Nurse who has 24 hour accountability and responsibility.

To contribute to care quality performance and clinical activity by providing professional nursing leadership and guidance, clinical advice and management in relation to the key dimensions of health care quality:

o Patient safety

o The effectiveness of all health care interventions

o Patient experience

o The environment in which care is delivered

Working with children in this way will require staff who identify strongly with our leadership behaviours of taking personal responsibility, always learning and developing, recognising and valuing peoples’ differences, working together and valuing one another. You will also need to be able to proactively work through issues which we may be encountering for the first time. You will be someone who enjoys working flexibly and effectively with enthusiasm and compassion to meet the health needs of a diverse community.

The cohort for this exercise is vaccination to 12-16 years of age. The roles will be predominately working from school sites, although there may be some additional off site activity to help children access these vaccinations.

Knowledge of immunisations schedules in accordance with national recommendations and having experience of delivering on large scale immunisation programmes would be useful but not essential. If you do not already have current immunisation training, we still want to hear from you but you must be willing to undertake training for the specific programmes.

It is anticipated that these roles will be deployed entirely within the School Aged Immunisation Service. However, as this is the first Covid 19 school aged immunisation programme, and we do not yet know what the demand will be from the population, there may be occasions where staff are asked to support with other vaccination programmes within the Trust. Being flexible and adapting to this requirement will be an essential requirement, especially for staff recruited to fixed term contracts.

These roles will enable one of the biggest public health exercises to children and young people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. (LLR), delivering clinics from individual schools. As much as possible we will match areas that you would be working in to your geographical preferences.
