Graduate, Management Consulting, Bristol, Winter 2022

Job description

Our Consulting practice is focused on results, supporting our clients with fast track, profitable growth. We use our understanding of how business works and a knowledge of how the right technology in the right place can create competitive advantage.

Our clients might want us to help them enter new markets; address the challenges created by organisational change; or draw up a sustainability strategy that aligns their commercial objectives with broader environmental and social concerns. Our clients range from household names across a diverse range of industries, everyone from big-name broadcasters and high-street banks, to multinational telecoms operators and energy companies.

You’ll get to work closely with the best in industry, finance and government in the UK and abroad, bringing fresh insights and motivation to the problems they face.

Management Consulting

Transformation is in our DNA. Our unique combination of strategy, technology and
management consulting expertise positions us as the go-to specialists for strategy-led, digitally-enabled, results-driven transformation programmes.

Through transformation we improve the way our clients operate; manage costs; better align people, process and technology initiatives; support business growth to maintain or improve competitive edge. In doing so, we focus on their strategic objectives and the big issues they need to deal with, both today and in the future.

You can choose to start in Management Consulting, where you’ll develop your core consulting and technical skills and gain a breadth of experience through a variety of roles, either across industries or engagements. Our Consulting practice has been in the top three The Times Top 100 Graduate Employer of Choice for Consulting, for the past seven consecutive years. We’ve also been externally recognised within the industry, winning two Management Consultancies Association Awards.

Join us, and like hundreds of consultants who have joined the programme previously you too can enjoy a successful career with us at PwC.

Programme

Our graduate training programme is underpinned by a development framework that broadens and deepens your knowledge. You'll learn from hands-on coaching and an outstanding variety of work, picking up business, personal and technical skills you can use across the network, and throughout your career.

What you’ll do

You’ll typically find yourself working as part of a team of anything from 2 to 30 people or more, working on projects that can be based anywhere from the UK to the USA, or Middle East to Africa. Our client projects are resourced nationally, so travelling and living away from home will be required. When you are not on a project you are expected to be available to be based out of your home office.

You’ll spend a lot of time working with clients both virtually and at their base locations dealing with issues as they arise, and gaining valuable exposure to different types of projects and diverse industries. Your role may be to carry out detailed analysis, helping support the recommendations that transform our clients’ businesses.

You’ll also have the opportunity to work on strategically important internal roles and secondment opportunities within the firm, where you can gain specialist knowledge from within the network. These experiences, combined with tailored training covering Consulting skills, emerging digital tools and technology, will equip you with the capabilities to really make a difference.

The client and internal roles that you will undertake during your time on the programme will vary depending on the specific project goal. You can expect to have the opportunity to demonstrate and develop all the core skills that you will learn as part of the induction training. For example, but not limited to:

  • Collecting, analysing and presenting data
  • Facilitating client workshops, presenting findings
  • Supporting project management activity
  • World class meeting facilitation, time management and organisational skills
  • Commercial management and engagement economics
  • Proposal support
  • Thought leadership/ research
  • Contributions to communities with their asset development and efforts to drive up diversity inclusion and engagement amongst teams

You’ll have the opportunity to put these skills into practice through various roles focussed on key areas of change.

What you’ll gain

After your initial graduate induction you will be invited to four further Advance events over the course of the first year. These events will build on the soft skills you’ll have learnt to date and give you the opportunity to put into practice that learning. An example of the types of skills you will develop could include managing difficult conversations, business analysis and project management expertise.

You’ll also have the opportunity to work towards the Chartered Management Consultant award, which sets and maintains the highest standards for the management consulting profession and is aligned to "Consulting Excellence"; the MCA 'kite mark' of quality. The award provides a framework that individuals can use to plan their professional development and is formally recognised in the consulting industry. Across five years, you’ll build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that you meet the key competencies and behaviours in order to obtain chartership status.

Throughout the programme you will be supported and encouraged to take ownership of your personal development, continually learning through feedback from different projects and roles. For example your Career Coach will help you determine your goals, understand feedback, identify your strengths and where you can improve. Before you transition into the business from the programme, your readiness to be promoted to Senior Associate will be assessed against the PwC professional framework to demonstrate you have the attributes required and are ready to operate at that grade.

What you’ll need

You'll need to have already graduated with a 2.1 degree or above in any subject. You'll need to have fully completed your Undergraduate degree by the start of early 2022.

When to apply

Although there is no application deadline, each year we have only a small number of roles available. We therefore advise applying early, but please be prepared for a short wait in processing your application at each stage of our process while we consider your application alongside others.
