South Norfolk and Broadland Council have an exciting opportunity for a Planning Officer – Post Graduate Apprentice to join their team. This role will bebased at Long Stratton, Norwich or Thorpe Lodge, Norwich and is offered on a full-time, fixed term contract for 3 years. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of Circa £25,991 per annum.

This is an apprenticeship post. The training provider for the RTPI Level 7 Town Planner apprenticeship is Anglia Ruskin University, and the working week will be split between study/learning (20%) and working in the Council’s planning department

What you’ll be doing as our Planning Officer – Post Graduate Apprentice:

- Assist with a variety of tasks associated with the processing of general planning enquiries.

- Provide support to the Planning team in assessing mainly householder applications. 

- Assist in discharge of condition applications, including site inspections, publicity, liaison with technical consultees, negotiation with applicants/agents, objectors and the public

- Draft delegated and committee reports in respect of your caseload.

- Assist senior officers in the preparation of evidence for appeals and carrying out land use histories.

- Undertake administrative duties in support of the work of the Development Management Team.

As our Planning Officer – Post Graduate Apprentice you must have…

- A relevant qualification (HNC or related degree) and/or minimum 4 years’ proven experience in a planning environment

- A full UK driving licence

- An understanding of public sector planning environment

- An ability to prepare reports, extract and interpret information from plans and files

- Effective communication and negotiation skills

- Problem solving skills

- Organisational skills and ability to prioritise

In addition, you must be able and willing to study for the RTPI Level 7 qualification including off the job training opportunities (20%)
